Welcome to New Zealand's Premier Cycle Tour - the PowerNet Tour of Southland.

The Tour of Southland

First introduced to the Southland province back in 1956 as part of Invercargill's centenary celebrations, the Tour of Southland has produced a long and colourful history and now stands proudly as New Zealand's premier multi-stage road Tour.

From its modest beginnings as a three day event, today's Tour is markedly different in status and appearance although the same passion and pride is still evident in the delivery of the six-day race.

- ORGANISE YOUR TEAMS NOW -

The 2010 PowerNet Tour of Southland will be raced from the 1st - 6th November.  Riders need to be organising their teams of six riders as soon as possible to avoid the disappointment of missing out on New Zealand's Premier Cycle Race.

Tour Manager, Bruce Ross said that there has been considerable interest in the event and entry forms will be available from 24th May.  The route for this year's event will be along similar lines to last year and confirmed details will be published on www.tourofsouthland.com in the near future.

This will be the 54th Tour of Southland and is an event that just seems to go from strength to strength.

Six Man Teams for 2010 PowerNet Tour

Organisers of the PowerNet Tour have announced that teams competing in this year's ev ent will be increased to six members.  Tour Manager Bruce Ross said that the decision to increase the number of riders from five to six per team follows a trend in international events over recent years where bigger numbers have become the norm. Ross said "that we have listened to feedback following recent tours and have decided that it is a logical move.  With a minimum of three riders required to be eligible for the Team's Classification, the increase to six riders gives teams an extra opportunity, especially if riders have had to withdraw through injury for example."
