More than a Velodrome
Apart from housing a world class cycling facility, the $10 million extension of Stadium Southland which was opened in May 2006, is very much a multi-use sporting and cultural centre. The inner arena of the Velodrome is the home of "four rebound ace" surfaced netball/tennis courts. This area, in conjunction with the adjoining Stadium Southland, has the capability of quickly transforming into a carpeted area suitable for a wide range of sport, leisure and cultural activities. Car, boat and home shows, weightlifting championships and gymnastic festivals are but a few of the examples of the diverse range of activities that have been successfully held.
An eleven hundred seat, fully carpeted grandstand, makes a comfortable area for the viewing public to join the activities. In addition, the facility boasts spacious corporate areas overlooking the arena, fully equipped meeting rooms, a fully licensed cafe plus adjacent ablution areas.
