"The Tour is the best I have been to, it is run by a great bunch of people, it's the best organised, and the courses and stages are really challenging."
Shayne Archbold, Winner - 2004 U17 Yunca tour of Southland and South Canterbury's Yunca Scholarship winner 2005

"The Yunca U17 Tour of Southland is about setting goals, aiming high and working hard, then seizing the opportunities that hard work produces", he says. "These are the same values I have installed in our business, and so the sponsorship is a very good fit."

CEO of Yunca

FROM YUNCA TOUR TO COMMONWEALTH GOLD

Glen Thomson commenced his racing career as a 12 year old and competed regularly in the Yunca Tour.

Commencing as a B grade rider, Thomson won several stages in the Yunca Tour and some prominent overall places during his junior years, but was never successful in adding his name to the distinguished list of winners.

Thomson went on to become a force in New Zealand cycling winning many titles and consistently representing New Zealand over many years. His career highlight came in 1998 with an outstanding ride to win the Gold medal in the Points Race at the Kuala Lumpur Commonwealth Games.

Thomson attributes learning the art of cycling by competing in events such as the Yunca Tour and has many fond memories of the Southland event.
