A small contingent of Southland riders attended the NZ Cup on Wheels track carnival at the Mosgiel velodrome on Saturday.

Corbin and Hayden Strong put in dominant performance’s in their respective divisions with a clean sweep of all of their races which included Corbin taking out the Junior Wheel race and Hayden the senior New Zealand Cup on Wheels as well as the Konica Minolta Benero Cup for the open points race.

The points race was an all-Southland podium with Corbin 2nd  (U17) and Nepia Ruwhiu 3rd  (U17) just ahead of Otago’s Ewan Syme (U17) who will ride for southland at the Age Group Track Nationals. Josh Miller (U15) took out the Junior points race after having to ride Junior A grade with the U17’s for all his previous races.

Sam and Wally Kopae made up the remainder of the southland contingent but had to return home on Saturday night having only rode the scratch race before the rain intervened and caused the remainder of the races to be postponed until Sunday.
