Cycling Southland Executive would like members to be given the opportunity to provide suitable recommendations to the Executive for consideration regarding nominees.

The Cycling New Zealand Awards based around the year from January 1st to December 31st 2014 are:

The Shona Smith Trophy – This Trophy is given in recognition of the person who has achieved the most in the previous 12 months in raising the profile of female involvement in our sport – A previous winner being our own Erin Criglington 2013/2014

Faces of Cycling (male, female) – This category recognises those who are not only exceptional in their chosen activities, but are also admired by their peers, act as role models and who others aspire to be like and enjoy spending time with.

Volunteer/Official of the Year

Club of the Year

Lifetime Service Award; greater than 10 years service.

Newcomer Award, less than 2 years service

The attention towards recognition of the many volunteers associated with any sport was raised by the UCI calling for official recognition of this category. Cycling NZ Road and Track has introduced this category into its annual awards, which recognises actions over the previous 12 months but can take into consideration accumulated service.

Coach of the Year (Team and Individual) – time frame as mentioned above; international and national achievements will be considered.

The Malayan Cup – Cycling New Zealand Road and Tracks “Supreme  Award; presented in recognition of outstanding service to the sport.  Previous winners include strong representation from the South, including Laurie Tall, Bruce Ross, Graham Sycamore, Tony Ineson and Bob Milne.

Nominations for awards are now open – the Executive are very interested in your views as to suitable nominees.

Please forward nominations to office@cyclingsouth.org.nz where they will be collated for consideration by the Executive.
