Hello and welcome to August everyone,
That means we are getting closer to our road tour season and registrations are already open online for the Yunca Junior Tour of Southland
In conjunction with this we will be hosting our ILT Junior Track Carnival along with the South Island Secondary Schools Track Champs – full details and entry forms for the track events are imminent! So ensure you are prepared and ready.
Club Raffle Fundraiser
We have recently launched a major club fundraiser with the aim of securing 30 new track bikes for our fleet, which is getting very tired after more than 11 years. Our membership is largely made up of riders that have come through the ranks of getting on a track bike on the velodrome and getting involved in the club fundraiser is a great way of paying forward the opportunities and experiences you have personally had on the boards.
We have to fundraise to secure any other community funding towards this project, so to do this we have a Bumper Raffle offering 14 great prizes that have been donated to us by some very kind members and supporters. The raffle closes on 31 August and will be drawn on 1 September. Prizes include an Arrowtown trail riding weekend, a 12-month season pass to sessions at the velodrome, a Samsung A5 mobile phone, firewood, gym membership, and much more.
If every licenced member of Cycling Southland picks up their raffle book from the office and gets selling their 10 tickets it would be greatly appreciated, we can also issue these at the road race this Saturday.
This is a great opportunity to give back to the club.
AGM and appointments
A big thanks to those who attended the Annual General Meeting last Thursday (minutes will be made available later this week). At the meeting it was confirmed that Reece McDonald and Adam McLeay were re-elected on to the executive.
Don Frew, Sid Cumming, and Erin Criglington were confirmed as selectors, while Waine Harding was confirmed as senior road convenor. The senior track convenor remains vacant at this time.
At the recent Junior Div AGM, Brendon McLeod was appointed junior road convenor, with Gerald Paterson and Nathan Shearing confirmed as junior track convenors.
Following the AGM, the executive committee met on Monday night and reconfirmed Reece McDonald as president for another year, and Adam McLeay to take on the role of vice president. A big thanks must go to board members Lindsay Jordan, who has stepped down from the vice president role but remains on the board,.
A big ‘thank you’ must go to Brendon McDermott of Sport Southland who has stepped down from his role as a co-opted member. He has provided significant support and guidance to the board during a significant period of change. He has helped provide stability, helped with the appointment of a fulltime general manager and assisted the board through the strategic plan process. His support has been greatly appreciated by the board.
The board is considering options to co-opt another executive member and that will be announced in due course.
The Cycling New Zealand membership year for 2018 will open on Monday 2nd October. After the 29th September they will not be able to issue 2017 licences to any rider.
This means that any juniors intending to ride the Yunca Junior Tour this year that are not yet licenced, should do so before 29 September or you will be riding in your 2018 age group, not your 2017 age group.
· If a rider has a 2017 licence purchased prior to 29 September, they can complete in the Tour in their 2017 Age Category*.
· If a rider does not have a 2017 licence purchased prior to 29th September, they would have to purchase the 2018 licence, and compete in the Tour in their 2018 age category .
*If riders have a 2017 licence and want to compete in their 2017 age group they should not renew their licence for 2018 until after the Tour.
**If riders have a 2017 licence and want to compete in their 2018 age group they should purchase a 2018 licence
The 2018 licence will again be current until 31 December next year.
