Greetings everyone and it is so nice to be enjoying some warmer days, lambs jumping in paddocks and the daffodils are out, so that makes for some fantastic time out training and racing on the roads and there is plenty more of that to come.
Oceania Track Champs
We are seeking expressions of interest from anyone still wishing to ride in the event, along with the Southland team manager, assistant manager, coach and handlers (dependent on team numbers). These expressions need to be with me by 5pm this Friday 6th September please.
We are also seeking volunteers to assist during the event, including timing, starting gates etc. Again please let me know if you are free – we know the day sessions can be tricky with work commitments etc
Executive Positions
The Board have made two additional appointments to take the full number of the Executive Board to seven. We welcome Megan Clark and Ellen Langley to the Board.
Megan is a Manager/Chartered Accountant with McCulloch and Partners, specialising in Business Advisory and Management Accounting.
Ellen is a registered Legal Executive with Preston Russell Law and has previous experience is sports administration at governance level.
It was also confirmed that Reece McDonald was elected as President and Nicola McAra has been elected as Vice-President.
Yunca Junior Tour

Road Racing
Well done to all those who took part and helped with marshalling etc for the Geo W Wilson & Sons / Southland Farm Machinery Gore to Invercargill Classic Road Race last weekend. Not bad conditions greeted everyone on the eve of spring Check out the race report
Southland Road Champs
This Saturday is the H&J Outdoor Southland Road Champs Time Trial on the Branxholme circuit and Sunday is the road race on the Gorge Road Circuit. The distances and racing schedule for both days have now been finalised and reposted. View the schedules here and register online here

NZ Schools Track Champs
We will also need some helpers during the qualifying afternoon for the New Zealand Schools Track Champs on Tuesday 8th October, along with the evening Carnival on the same date and then the schools champs again on Wednesday 9th October. Again this involves a couple of day shifts so if you’re here supporting your kid/s, we’d love to have you on board with his. Let me know – I’m only too willing to hear from you.
Friday Night Racing
This Friday night sees the return of Round 5 of the King House Removals Race Series from 6pm sharp.
Annual Awards

Track Maintenance
In between the Gore to Waikiwi Classic on Saturday and the Cycling Southland Awards on Sunday there was an awesome crew of volunteers down at the track working alongside the Stadium Southland team to freshen up the track.....and boy does it look good https://www.facebook.com/cyclingsouthland/
Track Bike Wanted
Over the coming six months we will have a highly skilled German rider here on exchange who has just won the equivalent road event as the Yunca Junior Tour of Southland, Jette Simon will be staying with Patrick and Finn Edwards and family and will kick off her arrival racing in our Yunca Junior Tour next month. They are after medium track bike for her to use while she is here so she can do the events on the track as well. If you are able to help out please let me know or contact Patrick directly please.
Finally huge congrats again to our Elite Sportsperson of the Year Tom Scully who has been named in the powerful Vantage New Zealand team for the UCI Road Worlds later this month. Good luck Scud – go hard out!
