Last week Southland School cyclists were back tearing around Teretonga raceway after a break over the school holidays. The break however must have refreshed some legs as the quality of racing was outstanding!
This week we organised some Team Time Trials, with a handicap format between the groups. Marcel Baird and Andrew Miller charged around the four laps and set a great time of 16 min 10 sec. This however was not quite quick enough to win on handicap from the team of Josh Haggerty, Logan Havenaar, Ethan Thwaites, Jordan Copeland and Jeremy Presbury, who came blitzed home with 16.45 (15.45 on handicap). A solid ride by our talented girls group of Georgia Timpany, Jen Muhl, Kate Dunlevey, Paigan Marshall and Sarah Tomlinson. Southland Coach Ross Machejefski is rapt that these girls all push each other extremely hard and is impressed with their rapid development in the sport.
The series now with two weeks remaining is being led by SBHS student Josh Haggerty and James Hargest’s Jen Muhl.
These two have been consistently putting in brilliant performances and have the trophies in sight with two weeks remaining. Young Hamish Beadle is only four points adrift of Josh and second female is the consistent Paigan Marshall. Newcomers Laura Heywood, Logan Havenaar, Lucas Hawton and Libby Bayne are also pushing hard vying for rookie of the year!
This series has provided great mid week winter training in preparation for October’s Yunca Junior Tour.
