Oceania Games Update

Day 1.

Competition at the 2011 Oceania games saw silver medals go to Southlanders, Tom Beadle and Natasha Hansen in the team sprint and a bronze medal to Cameron Karwowski.

Tom's silver medal came in the team sprint where he rode a rapid 14.4 second lap coming off second wheel to set up a respectable 48.5 second ride with Matt Noble of Wanganui and Tayla Harrison of Canterbury.

Natasha's start lap was most notable in 20.2, setting up a very fast time with Auckland's Henrietta Mitchell.

Cameron rode a very solid kilo TT of 1.04.3 to edge out Junior World medalist last year, Madison Hammond for the bronze and finish 3rd behind Commonwealth Champion Scott Sunderland and James Glasspool.

In the Women's scratch race, Sequoia Cooper rode exceptionally well, looking to instigate and feature in breaks with multiple Commonwealth and world medalists Kate Bates, Megan Dunn and Sarah Kent.  Unfortunately none of these stuck and she was left without much sprint however a great race which will benefit her in the future.

Today (Thurs 25th Nov) the temperature has cooled right down, unfortunately also cooling the track before we get to see Big Eddie and Matt in action in the sprint Qualifying.  Also Natasha Hansen in the sprint, Cameron in the IP and Dale Tye in the same event.  All look to be going well so looking for more successes to talk about tomorrow.

Cheers Ross
