Glengarry Bike Fun Day
Next Sunday 14 February, Cycling Southland is assisting with the planning and running of the Glengarry Bike Fun Day, from 11am to 1pm. This is a fun, free event (there will be no entry fee for racing) for all the family. So head along with your bikes to the Glengarry Crescent playground, participate in our of the fun community events and you could win one of the great prize. There will be events for all ages and skills and food will be available for sale. The event will be followed by the Glengarry Summer Concert at 1pm. So all enthusiastic cyclists head along and support this event and have some additional fun with it.

Southland Champs Medals
All the initial medals are now available from the office, however, it has become apparent that there are many races missing from the original results run, including IPs, Points, Keirins, junior derbys and more.

Upon investigation these events do not even seem to exist in the timing system anymore, which is more than a  little bizarre. Accordingly, I’m having to rely on your feedback to confirm the results for all the missing events and medals. If you have not received all you medals please let me know what you are missing for which events. Thanks for helping to tidy all this up.

Waikaka Special Race
On Saturday 27 February a very special race road race is being held in Waikaka where member Neil Sutherland has been mustering up some tremendous community goodwill and support to get behind the Waikaka Special Graded Road Race.

There will be $1500 in prize money, including a King of the Mountain prize and A to D grades for seniors as well as junior divisions.  Check out all the details here and make sure you support this awesome event!

Masters Games – top effort!
Huge congrats tour our mega warrior Masters men who pumped out gold across four age groups at the Masters Games in Dunedin last week.

Alistair Burnett, Ray Robinson, Barry Harcourt and Alexandra’s John Alabaster all won their categories, which is a mighty fine effort indeed. Read more here

Finally, a huge good luck to all our Elite and Under 19s who are in the final week of preparation for the Elite Track Nationals in Cambridge from 9 to 13 February – the quest for the record ninth retention of the National Points Shield as about to begin again in earnest and our 27-strong team are a mighty fine crew to kick the action off. We’ll all be cheering you on team Southland if we cannot be there in person and those who are there have to cheer extra loud for us all back home!

So try and keep cool through the heatwave of this week and take care until next time
