Hi folks and we trust you are all settling into the New Year, although I am sure some of you are still savouring a last hurrah before having to face reality so enjoy it while you can.
Brian Broad
We’re sad to inform our members and supporters that Brian Broad, a long-time member, supporter and former general manager of Cycling Southland, died early Tuesday morning.
He was a fearless cyclist in his day, claiming numerous titles (including national tandem titles with Barry Tall), and represented his province with great pride. He was involved at a national level with the Cycling NZ board and was a strong and passionate advocate for cycling and Cycling Southland.
Our sympathies go to Sonny (former patron and honorary Life Member of Cycling Southland), Lesley, Robyn and the wider family, and Louise, Bridget and Tim.
New Year Carnival
We launched the year in style with a fantastic Carnival on Friday and Saturday nights and the Ascot Crit on Saturday as well. There was some totally superb racing at all levels and everyone pretty showed that they are ready and raring to go for the year as we prepare in earnest to begin the Track Nationals season. Well done to everyone who competed and a huge thank you to the wonderful helpers who helped to make these events happen – you are all super stars!
