Hi team,
Well it’s been another busy and rewarding week both locally and overseas with many of our Juniors enjoying their annual camp, which was held in Tuatapere over the weekend. Well done to the organising team and everyone who helped out to ensure it was another highly successful weekend. Meanwhile, our Paracyling trio of Phillipa Gray, Laura Thompson and Gabby Vermunt appear to be on Para-fire!
Firstly Philly and Laura took out Time Trial Silver at the UCI Para Road World Cup in Matane with Gabby piloting Emma Foy to 4th on her debut outing on the international stage before quickly backing that up with a silver-winning ride. They’re next stop is the World Champs TT on Saturday and Road Race next Monday – Huge congrats and good luck for the next whirl ladies!

Bikes in Tunnel
There are a number of bikes locked in the tunnel for sale etc at the moment and we have now learned that the Rices Powerstore Expo is being held in the Velodrome from Friday 6 to Sunday 8 September. To ensure there is no damage incurred please remove your bike from the tunnel as soon as possible as a lot of set up and loading in will be going on for this and again for the following week for the Trans-Tasman netball test. Thanks.
Coaching Forum – Monday 9 September 7pm, Sarah Ulmer Lounge
A coaching forum for all those currently coaching, or interested in becoming involved, will be held on Monday 9 September at 7pm in the Sarah Ulmer Lounge. There are lots of things to talk about (especially the up-coming Age Group Squad Trainings) and plenty of information to share. It would be awesome to see a good crowd there! 2013 Secondary Schools Team Sprint Competition – Sunday 29 September 2013
We kicked off this awesome competition last year off the back of the Corporate Pursuit, and it was a lot of fun with some great racing!
This year, we are looking to run the competition along similar lines to 2012. The idea is to spread out riders who are already part of the club, amongst different teams and have them acting as coaches - promoting new students/riders to get on the track and give it a go.
Entries close on September 13, and you can find an entry form and also the list of rules by clicking here

However, with the announcement that the track will now being closed from September 10 til 17 due to the Netball test, all squad sessions will now start from the week starting Monday September 23. Apologies for the changes to the original plan.
In other changes, the Masters Training Squad on Sundays will start a little later (on Sunday October 13) due to the Secondary Schools Team Sprint Competition on Sunday September 29 and the Yunca Tour on October 6. Please note that after Southland Champs in December, the Masters Men will have a Thursday 7-9pm slot and the Masters Women Sundays 1-3pm slot due to the large numbers in these squads.
So, squad session training times and start dates are now as follows:
Mondays 4-6pm – U15 Squad – Starting Monday 23 September
Thursdays 4-6pm – U17 Squad – Starting Thursday 26 September
Fridays 8-10pm – Elite & U19 Squad – Staring Friday 27 September
Sundays 1-3pm – Masters – Starting Sunday 13 October 13
Also:
Mondays 7-9pm – Sprint Squad (for those U19 and Senior sprinters aiming to represent Southland at the Nationals and beyond).
Squad sessions are designed to help provide extra fitness and skills to those riders focusing on selection to the Southland Squad for the Nationals Track Champs in 2014, with the first target for all riders being the main selection race for Southland Squads – the Southland Track Champs (December 6-8 2013).
If anyone has any questions about anything concerning the Age Group Squads, then please do not hesitate to contact me by phone or email: [email protected]. I am more than happy to chat and answer any queries
