Hi everyone and we hope all our younger members are enjoying themselves as they settle into a couple of weeks off for good behaviour with school holidays.

For many a breather is well deserved after the fantastic effort at the Club Road Nationals in Queenstown last week/end.

Congratulations to everyone who took part and to all those who so willingly helped out as well. There were some tremendous results – both personally and overall and some superb medal-winning rides. Also, for the first time in a very long time (possibly ever!) Southland featured in the Road Championships Point’s Shield Competition, in coming third overall, so that is nothing short of being awesome in itself. If you haven’t caught up on all the results and some great photos, check out the news_updates, although we know many of you had been following the daily updates from all the action on Facebook – what a great service to have it is too!

Just a final reminder to all those who hired road tops for the event, can you please return these to the office when you are next passing by – greatly appreciated thank you. If you are buying your top and have yet to pay, we’d appreciate this being fixed up too please.

Cycling Southland Prizegiving
On Thursday May 23, from 7pm, the 2013 Cycling Southland Prizegiving will take place at the Ascot Park Hotel.  This will  be a fun, casual evening with finger food and with the bar operating, and various awards will be presented, including awards for Contribution across different areas of the club, Rider of the Year in different categories, Best Performance, Summer Criterium Series winners, and other fun awards such as the prestigious “Muppet of the Year”!

So block the date out and more information on tickets will out be soon!

Corporate Pursuit
This year’s corporate pursuit is scheduled for the 4 August (time trials) and 11 August (race day).  We would appreciate a number of coaches and officials for the biggest club fundraiser of the year.

If you are able to assist with coaching a team, which includes 5 one hour sessions,  or would be available to officiate then please email event directors Julian Ineson [email protected] or Sier Vermunt [email protected].

Recreational Weekend Rides
Graeme and Julie’s rec rides leave the Velodrome on Saturdays at 9am and Sundays at 10am on varying routes and distances, which can be viewed each week here. The destinations and distances may change subject to weather conditions and you can also check the website to see if there is a wet weather booking for the Velodrome on Sundays – unfortunately this week there is a Steel game. Feel free to contact Graeme or Julie if you have any queries – their contact details on also online.

Session updates
A reminder that the Steel and Sharks seasons are now in full swing in the Velodrome centre field, so please keep any eye out at the weekly track_schedule for track closures and booking cancellations over the coming weeks. This year the seasons are relatively condensed with the final game for Steel on 23 June.

BOW/WOW are all go again on Wednesday nights with the more beginner adults from 7-8pm, followed by intermediate/advanced at 8pm. Meanwhile, Drafters is building momentum on Tuesdays from 6-7pm. This coached adult session is aimed at building the skill and confidence of budding riders. All school group sessions will recommence once Term 2 starts from Monday 6 May.

Finally, the Southland Road Champs and Time Trial medals were all ordered as soon as the events were finished. These will hopefully be available in the next week or two so I will let you know when you can pick them up.

Until the next instalment, keep cosy and happy and have a pleasant Anzac Day on Thursday – yes the Velodrome will be closed.
