Hi cycling enthusiasts - and if you weren’t already you can’t help but be amped after such an outstanding final result from our track, road and BMX cycling representatives in Glasgow – it’s seriously got to be a good thing for the sport going into the future!

It’s definitely helped to spark quite a bit of interest in our beginner kids and adults sessions lately, which is fantastic!

Spokes On-line Petition to Triple Cycling Budget
Spokes Dunedin – the Dunedin branch of the volunteer cycling advocacy group – are running an on-line campaign to ask the government to triple to budget for cycling and walking for all New Zealand. According to the latest Draft Government Policy Statement, cycling and walking combined get less than anything else – about $20 million out of a total budget of $3.5 billion per year. Additional funding could go towards better and safer cycling for everybody. Go to www.onyerbike.kiwi to add your name to the on-line petition by Monday 11 August.

Junior Division Monthly Meeting Postponed
This Thursday’s monthly Junior Division meeting has been postponed due to attendee unavailability and will now be held next Monday 11 August, in the Sarah Ulmer Lounge, from 7pm, followed by a Yunca Junior Tour meeting. All welcome.

Women on Wheels – WOW restarting
After a considerable absence, Julie Irvine has very kindly offered to restart our Women on Wheels (WOW) session, starting this Thursday night from 8-9pm. It will run weekly on Thursday nights until the Corporate Omnium is over when we will address pulling it back to its former spot on Wednesday nights. This session is open to beginner and intermediate women riders only. Feel free to head along if you fit the bill.

Round three of the Baxter & Neilson Junior Race Series will be held this Friday night from 6-8.30pm. Please bring a plate and a reminder that the series entry fee is $40 for those who still have payments outstanding – this can be made at the office.

This Saturday is the Thornbury Graded Race – register online by midday Friday Reminder that race assembly is 12.30pm for a 1pm race start.

A reminder that Red Burnett is managing and Brendan Akeroyd, Craig Sadlier and Daryl Haggerty are down to marshall. If you unable to fulfil your duties please make arrangements to swap with someone else or organise replacement cover- thank you.

Yunca Billets
Fantastically we have a number of Australian riders coming to the deep south to ride the Yunca Junior Tour again this year, from Friday 3 to Sunday 5 October. If anyone is able to lend a hand with billeting during this time, can you please let me know at the office so we can collect a list of names. Thank you hugely [email protected]

Oceanias – Skinsuits/Speedsuits
Any juniors attending the Oceanias who are needing new skinsuits or speedsuits, you need to let me know immediately of your requirements and sizing requests – an order has been placed already so we don’t want any last-minute curve balls. Email me ASAP [email protected]

Concession Cards – the best rate and way to go!
A reminder to all riders that concession cards are the more economical option for attending track sessions and even weekend road races. You can keep these in the most regular session folder you attend, in the card box in the office or on your person and just get someone at the session to sign and date the card when you attend to ride.

If you have one in the card box or in another session folder just write it on the attendance sign on form and I will check it off for you.

Concession cards work out at $4.15 per session ride for members with their own bikes or just $6.25 for members with bike hire instead of the usual $10. It also saves IOUs, no change being available on the night and scrambling for spare coins each time you come down to ride.

Let me know if you want a card [email protected] and I’m happy to invoice you and you can pay via internet banking, or you can pay by EFTPOS at the office (no credit cards please).

Lock Up Under Track Secure
The lock up under the track is now fully secure again – thanks for the new super-duper heavy duty lock donation and installation Ant Leathart and Maree Wilkins – much appreciated. They have also put us on to a new-fangled key safe, which is being mounted on the wall today or tomorrow with the lock up  key in it. It will have a password for club members needing access to their stored equipment under the track for sessions and the ERGs and “Bob’s your uncle” we’ll be away laughing moving forward. So please contact me at the office for the lock up code moving forward so you can access the ERGs after hours and any bikes etc you have in storage. The code will be given to members only.

Okey dokey that’s it for another Tuesday – and again plenty to mull over. Keep bringing your mates down to the track so everyone gets to enjoy and take care on the roads!
