Hi everyone, well it is already Crowe Horwath Corporate Pursuit time and the teams take to the track this Sunday, from 2pm for the Time Trial.  So get on down and cheer them on – it’s great entertainment on these cooler wintry months.

There’s plenty to catch up on today so we’ll plough straight in!

LONE STAR SPEIGHTS ROLLER RACING – HEAT 3
Good luck to the following teams involved in the final heat of the Lone Star Speights Roller Racing tonight at the Lone Star starting at 7:00pm

Westpac
BNZ
Fonterra 1
EIS Group
Fonterra 2
BMAC Sheetmetal
Environment Southland
Crowe Horwarth

The top 8 teams from the 3 weeks heats will then battle it out next Tuesday night in the grand final.

CROWE HORWATH CORPORATE PURSUIT
The following teams need to note that your time trial starting time has come forward five minutes as the Police team has had to withdraw from the competition, BMAC Sheetmetal, Environment Southland and Crowe Horwarth.

The two divisions will be made up of eleven teams each. This will be decided by the times posted on the time trial day as per usual.

We are able to confirm that all teams will have a minimum of three races throughout the race day. Please double check your final teams lists here for the programme and notify Melissa [email protected] if there are any last-minute amendments

Extra tickets for the prizegiving function at the Ascot must be notified to the Cycling Southland Office or at the registration desk at Time Trial day on Sunday 29 June. These are $30 per person. Your official coaches are provided a complimentary ticket. If your team require less than the 6 tickets that are part of your entry fee please let us know so as we can cater for the correct number of attendees.

You are also reminded that on the Time Trial day your team needs to arrive at least half an hour prior to your start time. Please check in at the registration table. Team photos will be taken at the Time Trial.

Admission to the Velodrome for both the time trial and the race day is $2.00 for adults and Pre School and School aged children are free.

View the officials lists here for both the time trial and race day.  If your name is missing or you are no longer available please let the office know. Please also confirm with the office if you wish to take up the offer of a complimentary ticket to the Ascot Park Hotel presentation on the 6 July. If all volunteers could please be available half an hour before the event begins it would be great thank you.

All Comers Record
Are you keen to put your name on the honours board and walk away with some cold hard cash then the 'All Comers Record' is for you.  As part of the Crowe Horwath Corporate Pursuit we offer the chance for riders to put a four member team together and ride the 1000m.  The record last year was set by a group of junior riders at around 1:09.

Rules are simple:
4 riders with at least one female
81 inch gear
Changes same as team sprint.

The race will occur around the lunch break on Sunday 6 July.  $20 per person entry.
Break the record take the dosh!
Please let the office know if you intend competing with names of riders and team name.

Julian and Sier

Carnival Group
A reminder that the brainstorming session to look at the format and planning of Track Carnivals will take place at 7:00pm on Wednesday 25 June (tomorrow) in the Sarah Ulmer Lounge. The purpose of this session is to explore ideas for improving the look and feel of the Carnivals to make them more appealing for cyclists and spectators alike.

Track Session Rates for Non-Members
Non-members are frequently charged member rates when they attend track sessions. This impacts the Club in two ways; (i) lost income from track sessions and (ii) reduced benefit for being a member and a missed opportunity to grow our membership base. Consequently, this is an area that needs to be addressed if we are to be successful in growing our membership base. The correct rate for non-members is $15 per session, however, this can be reduced to just $7.50 plus two free sessions by becoming a member and purchasing a concession card that offers 12 rides for $75.

Winter – Spring Road Racing programme
A huge thank you again to Waine and all those who have helped to finalise another road racing programme for the upcoming season. View the programme here
A reminder that the first race – the Donovan Graded Points race - will kick off on Saturday 5 July and you can now register online by clicking here

Junior Division Baxter & Neilson Race Series

Register now for the eight-race series and payment of $40 can be made on the first race day, or paid at the office by either Eftpos, or by direct credit via internet banking (if you require account details please contact me [email protected] ).

Oceanias
For those juniors travelling to Oceas there are fundraising opportunities over the next two weekends for the corporate pursuit so keep an eye on your emails. Those travelling to Oceas will get preference for certain fundraising events up until October.

West End Fire Door Exit
This is a formal reminder that Cycling Southland members are NOT to exit through the fire exit bar door outside the lock-up. You can use your swipe card to exit and hold it between the door glass and swipe card sensor to exit using the left-hand door.

The doors are alarmed and the bar door will not close properly from the outside – so DO NOT try and force it too. Riders etc have been spotted still using the bar door and a word or warning is that they will be secured fullstop so they can only be used in the event of a fire or fire drill. You have been warned … again … so please adhere and behave. Thank you

Changing out Club Bike toe straps for pedals
While we’re on the topic of respecting rules – can riders please refrain from removing club bike toe straps to put on their own pedals! Expensive cranks are constantly being cross-threaded and damaged beyond repair. No sooner are the repairs and replacements up to date and we find another couple of sets of toe straps lying down among the bikes and another damaged crank – this is not on. It is highly disruptive to booked track sessions and there is a serious safety risk as well. Please discuss any such requirement with us in the office before even contemplating changing anything out on club bikes – you are, however, more than welcome to adjust the bike seats.

Bike Repairs
A reminder that if a club bike is damaged, please hook it on the tunnel rail and note the bike number and what repair is required on the whiteboard.

AGM Date
A reminder that our Cycling Southland AGM will be held on Thursday 24 July, from 7pm, in the Sarah Ulmer Lounge.

Secondary Schools Sessions - Tuesdays
A reminder that today is the last secondary schools session with Dave Beadle for the term as he is away in the States with Hamish on his big and exciting excursion to Novo Nordisk. The session will restart in Term 3.

So that is the heads up on another week of action on the boards – there are certainly few gaps available until the end of school term and it’s great to see Term 3 getting busier by the minute as well.

Take care for another great week ahead and we look forward to seeing you down at the track for the business end of competition this Sunday.
