Hi everyone,
Well the last major event is over for the year and we’re already in planning mode for the New Year with the Gore to Invercargill road classic, ILT New Year Carnival and Ascot Park Hotel Criteriums being held from 19 to 23 January check out the details and register online here
Then it is straight into final preparation for the Vantage Windows and Doors Elite Track National Championships from 2 to 5 February, when we commence battle to retain the points shield for a record 10th year. It will be fantastic to have all the big guns back here on the SIT Zero Fees Velodrome boards.
Sessions Today
Both the secondary schools session 5- 6pm and Junior Enduro session 6-7pm today are cancelled due to a prizegiving and rest day following the champs.
Baxter and Neilson
It was the end of an era on Saturday night with the final in the Baxter and Neilson Omnium series. For 10 years Ray and Trish Galt have been behind the series, which has provided awesome development for our Juniors. Many former competitors and winners have gone on to the highest level and their support has been crucial.
We've been so grateful to Ray and Trish for their support and it was great to acknowledge that on Saturday night with a presentation to Ray, which hit the spot perfectly.
A big thank you to Gerald Paterson for his involvement in the series this year - there's no doubt it wouldn't have been as successful as it has without his diligence, so many thanks.
And a big thanks to all the parents who have been involved in the running of the races over the years - it's vital to have that parent involvement to make it happen.
The concept will be amended for next year so there is a great opportunity for another business to step in and put its stamp on junior track racing in Southland - if you're interested please do get in touch. We're open to suggestions and ideas around how it can be changed or improved, and what's the best concept for the development and growth of our younger riders.
Road Racing
This Saturday is the final road race of the year and the final race in the South Port Points Series being held on the Myross Bush circuit so make sure you get online now and register. Check out the results online
Meanwhile, you can view next year’s summer race programme
Office Closing
The Cycling Southland office will be closed from Friday, December 16, for the Christmas break and reopen on January 9. If you are looking for a Christmas present (concession card or a voucher) do come and see us before that.
Oceania Champs
The Oceania Track Champs kick off in Melbourne on Thursday, so a huge good luck to all our Southland riders who are representing our club and those who are riding for New Zealand. We wish you all the very best for some fantastic results all round.
Vital Signs Tour de Lakes
Our life member Allan Dunn is already busy prepping for next year’s Easter Tour de Lakes event and, once again, a French contingent is returning to take part in this popular event. As a result, we’re looking for accommodation for four French men who will be here before the tour from April 9 to 12 or 13. If anyone very kindly has options to offer, please let me know office@cyclingsouth.org.nz and I will pass details on thank you.
Righty ho, keeping it short and sweet this week, so have a great one and start getting ready for Christmas, as it is getting rapidly close!
