FROM THE GM’s DESK
It’s a busy week for Cycling Southland as we roll into the school holidays so we’ll kick off with the five things you need to have in your diary .

  • Tonight 6pm – coaches meeting in the Sarah Ulmer Lounge.
  • Tonight 7pm – Junior Div Special Meeting regarding concession cards, in the Sarah Ulmer Lounge.
  • Thursday 6.30pm – Special General Meeting at Ascot Park Hotel ahead of…
  • Thursday 7pm – Club prize giving at Ascot Park Hotel, tickets $15 from the office
  • Sunday from 9am, racing from 9.30am, Corporate Pursuit

Southern Performance Hub
I’m delighted to announce that Cycling NZ has pushed the green button on the Southern Performance Hub and is now advertising for a coach. This is a significant step forward for cycling and for the club and we’re excited about the opportunities this will bring.

The hub will act as a stepping stone for promising young riders into the HP programme and means they won’t have to move to Cambridge to be in the mix for national selection.

The hub coach will work with CNZ and Cycling Southland coaches to ensure everyone is on the same page towards rider development.

The full details are still being developed and there’s no concrete timeline because it depends on the recruitment process. But there’s been a lot of work done behind the scenes to get to this point and the fact that things are moving to the next stage is quite exciting.

Junior Division Special Meeting tonight
At a recent  meeting June two options were put forward about Junior Division covering track hire costs going forward View the meeting minutes here Please ensure you have your say and attend the special meeting in the Ulmer Lounge tonight at 7pm.

SGM on Thursday
A Special General Meeting is set down for Thursday, from 6.30pm, prior to the annual club prizegiving. The information was emailed out last week. It relates to a proposal to change the club’s constitution clause 8.2, which relates to the election cycle of board members, and the appointment of the president and vice president. Please get in touch if you have any queries relating to this.

Prizegiving
Don’t forget to get your tickets to the annual club prizegiving on Thursday night at the Ascot Park Hotel. We keep getting feedback about having social events so here’s a chance for a great night out to kick back and have a laugh with your fellow club members. Tickets are essential for catering purposes and are available from the office $15 each and doors are open at 6.30pm for the SGM.

Corporate Pursuit
Six weeks (at least) of training will be put to the test on Sunday with the annual Corporate Pursuit. A big thanks goes out all the volunteers who are coaching and also to the riders and their businesses for getting on board again to make it happen this year – good luck! Here is where you can find the draw for the first three rides. Each team gets five rides on the day.

Bike Storage
We’ve had a great response from club members around storing bikes under the tunnel. Because of the unexpected demand, we will make some more space available soon, although it will be at the lowest part of the track.

Some bikes are being stored there until Corporate Pursuit is finished, but after Monday we will start moving bikes that have not had a slot claimed.

Please contact the office to secure your spot or it will be reallocated and your bike moved.

Holiday Programme
We will again be hosting a School Holiday Programme next week, for 9-10 year-olds and over, including track cycling and skill-based cycling techniques.

Tuesday 12th - 10am-12pm
Friday 15th - 1-3pm
Tuesday 19th - 10am-12pm
Thursday 21st - 10am - 12pm

Junior Camp Tautuku
In the first week of the holidays, a Junior Division Camp will be held at Tautuku from Wednesday 13 July to Friday 15. View the details and how to register

Make sure you join in the fun and team building. Please contact Danielle [email protected] as she needs to provide all attendees with a consent form, which needs to be signed and returned before the kids can go thank you.

AGM
Just a reminder that the Cycling Southland AGM will be held in the Sarah Ulmer Lounge on July 27. An agenda will be made available early next week.

Well done…
To Nick Kergozou who was third in the under-23 omnium competition at the Poland Grand Prix. It was an impressive performance by New Zealand cyclists as they prepare towards the Rio Olympics, with South Canterbury rider Dylan Kennett finishing first and Hawke’s Bay rider Regan Gough second.
