Hi team and another stunning summer day it is out there again.
Well, first things first the sun is shining, cycling is in great form in the south and we are delighted to again have the financial support of our invaluable community funder the ILT Foundation who have today delivered the first instalment of our Operational Grant for 2016, totalling $70,000. A huge thank you to all the team at the ILT who continue to help us deliver the amazing opportunities for budding new cyclists and our myriad of great events that we are able to offer each year. We couldn’t do it without you. (See the photo of our new General Manager Mark Hotton, President Lindsay Jordan and ILT Foundation representative Alan Dennis attached).
A bit to get through again today so we’ll launch straight in with the Southland Track Champs and UCI C1 Para-cycling event from 11-13 December. Entries for this close this Friday so get online and register now We again have great entries from all over.
The programme is online now and just confirming that despite the event entry saying there would be a standing lap, this event will not be run during the Champs.
Once again, if anyone is free to lend a hand please let us know if you haven’t already – every pair of hands is a huge help.
Elite Road Nationals January
Elite and U23 Time Trial and Road Race entries close on December 4th - register online to secure your entry. Tineli Gran Fondo and Traffic Design Group Flying Lap entries close December 23. This year’s event is being held from 8 to 10 January in Hawke’s Bay.
Junior Division Racing
The hugely popular annual Baxter & Neilson Junior Division Race Series wrapped up last Friday night after eight nights of hotly contested racing. Well done to the overall winners and all those who competed during this year’s event and helping ensure it was such a success. View the pictures and winners here
No Junior Racing Friday Night
There will be no Junior Racing this Friday night due to the ILT Stadium staff having their team Christmas function and the rest of the building not being used so it is a timely chance for them to do their thing. So rest up Friday night for a big week the following one.
Junior Division Meeting Thursday
It’s a busy time of year but important to have a follow up meeting to check on actions from last month and deal with any other urgent business.
This will be held this Thursday 8pm, envisage 9pm being closing time. It will be in the grandstand outside the office due to the lounges being used.
Amazing Race Christmas Break Up
On Saturday 5 December we will be hosting the ever-popular Amazing Race-mystery treasure hunt to finish the year off with a social. So grab a partner and all teams of two will race off against each other with fun and mayhem along the way, we’re also after some juniors to help at stations along the race course. This is R18 and team entry is $25 Check out details here and enter your teams with me [email protected]

Finally on a more sombre note, it was very sad indeed to hear of the passing yesterday of a great cycling photographer Mark Gunter, of Australia. Mark was an all-round great guy who frequented Invercargill on several occasions for big events, including the Tour of Southland and Junior Worlds Track Champs. We pass on our condolences and wish his family all the very best during this difficult time. Read more here
Well it’s hot again and it’s going to be even hotter tomorrow – so keep cool, keep hydrated and keep well because it’s nearly Christmas time.
Have a great week everyone
