Howdy doody folks and with just five days to go until Tour time it is the least we can say all but frenetic with planning and final preparation. Needless to say in true Tour spirit, the long range forecast is not looking tropical – watch this space and make sure you get out and cheer the riders on if they are coming past at any time during the week.
Drivers to assist Tour film crew
The Tour film crew have a car and they just need somebody who is able to drive to certain locations and wait for the motorbike with camera op to come through. They collect the footage from the camera and race it back to the edit suite in Invercargill.
You would usually have just the one trip to make during the day – but sometimes two.
Even if someone could do some days but not others, anything would help. If you are able to assist please contact [email protected]
Tour events caravan
We are urgently require a person to tow the Tour of Southland event caravan during the week of the Tour – Sunday 2 to Saturday 8 November. If anyone can assist please contact Bruce on [email protected] Thank you!!

Great Southern Cycle Challenge
This Saturday 1 November – just before the SBS Bank Tour of Southland kicks off again, the Great Southern Cycle Challenge (GSCC) will be held. The race is an initiative by the Rotary Club of Invercargill South to raise funds for the St John Health Shuttle. It is a virtual mini tour of Southland, open to all cyclists of average or better fitness levels.
Starting from Surrey Park at SIT Zero Fees Velodrome in Invercargill, the course covers a host of local towns before returning to the finish near the Velodrome. All roads are open to other users so participants must obey the road code at all times. Click here to find out more or download an entry form – please get entries in ASAP thank you.
Baxter & Neilson change of date
Unfortunately, due to the clash with the beach volleyball event at the end of November, we’re having to pull the final race date forward now from 28 November to now being on 21 November. Please note this in your diaries and remember that the second last round is this Friday 7 November. Can all B & N jersey holders ensure you bring your jersey with you on Friday night for individual photos please, thank you.
Senior Racing Tonight
Due to unavailability, tonight’s session will be an informal roll and anyone who does turn up can organise a race or two if desired. Please put names, CC note or $ in the folder at the top of the track tunnel in perspex container and slip folder under the office door at the end of the session if any money is involved. Thank you.
Meat Order Fundraiser
After the success of our last meat fundraiser, we are again doing another one with delivery on Friday 14 November 2014 as follows:
The Ribeye steak and pork loin is in a slab and both are very nice meat. Recommendation is to put in freezer for 30 – 60mins then slice into desired sized pieces. Then wrap either individually or in meal sized packs. The mince is of very high quality and the patties are of similar quality to the Angel Bay Patties and do not shrink up at all.
The meat will be delivered to the velodrome on Friday 14 November at 5.00pm and all families who participate and sell meat will need to come along and assist with weighting and getting meat ready. If you advise those that you sell to come along between 5.45pm and 6.30pm to collect their order, with their payment.
Please email orders direct to Richelle Holland at [email protected], first in first served, please be aware that there are limited numbers available of the Ribeye and Pork loin (at this time but we may do another one in the New Year if needed). You yourself just need to collate the numbers of each item you have sold and forward on to Richelle, and then bring details of orders on the day. Download your order form here
Happy selling

BikeNZ and Cycling Southland membership renewal period opens 1 November
The window to renew your annual Cycling Southland and BikeNZ membership, or to become a new 2015 BikeNZ member, will open on 1 November.
What you’ll need to do – The next time you log in to your BikeNZ membership from 1 November (via the BikeNZ website), you’ll have the ability to renew your membership and will be guided through the process, including payment. Please complete your renewal by 31 December 2014.
Renewals from 1 November will be valid for the remainder of 2014 and through until 31 December 2015.
Please note – The BikeNZ system doesn’t allow you to use a family email address because your email address is treated as your unique login.
Therefore each individual member must have their own email address.
You can quickly set up a free gmail, hotmail, yahoo or other email address.
Alternatively, if you have a child who you do not want to have their own email, most email accounts will allow you to set up "alias accounts."
Also note that memberships can be done through me at the office as well, but I cannot change any of your physical details such as change of address etc on the BikeNZ database – you need to log in and do this yourself.
Well it’s Tour time – almost - so back to the grind we go for the week – join us at Queens Park for the Tour prologue with Time Trials kicking off at 4.30pm this Sunday – it’s a great afternoon for all the family so we look forward to seeing you there!
Take care out there
