Date: Tuesday, 17 July 2018

Hi everyone,
It’s over half way through July already and boy we are still getting off light with the weather down here. It’s been great for the start of the winter road racing programme and still everyone is making the most of the open track sessions on offer as well. There’s just still plenty to keep everyone busy and happy and there’s even more coming up to look forward to too!

Subway Series Two
The second round of the Cycling NZ Subway track series was held in Cambridge over the weekend with 17 travelling to this event joined by Corbin and Sophie who are in Cambridge with the Junior Worlds lead-in camp. The second event was much bigger than our first one here in the south, with almost twice the number of athletes, including a couple who had travelled over from Oz. Check out all the results

Our team were very fortunate to have support from Chubb at the Middle Pub in Winton who provided a van and Baz Janssen Building also of Winton who provided his large covered trailer for getting the luggage to Queenstown Airport and home again. A special thanks to Mike Green and the parents who transported and collected the group from Queenstown.

The series continued to build on the first round with lots of racing and a couple of seminars. As an indication Corbin did almost 120k’s track racing on Saturday, with plenty of opportunity to learn and improve for all involved. The third round will also be held in Cambridge over 24-26th of August, if you are interested in attending or have any questions contact Sid.

Can riders and parents please return their signed forms to the office or their coach please. We’ll be following up on these in the coming weeks but would appreciate them filled in. Remember, these are a visual reminder of the Code of Conduct & Integrity that all riders have agreed to abide by when licensing.

Accident reporting
If you or your child has an accident at the track or during a road race that requires medical treatment either at the time or later, please notify the coach or race manager. If, during an unsupervised session, you have an accident that requires medical treatment then please contact the office. We have a process around reporting injuries that must be followed.

If there is an accident that requires an ambulance or hospital treatment, then our GM Mark must be contacted immediately – his contact details are on the website

It should be an awesome field this year with riders travelling down for the South Island Secondary Schools Track Champs and Junior Track Carnival again on the following Tuesday and Wednesday.

Great Stuff!
Fantastic to see Tom Scully featuring on the front page of the paper this morning as Southland’s first-ever elite cyclist to ride the Tour de France

Mum Wendy and Dad Matt you must be so very proud and lovely to see one of our own young track stars Sienna Morris also featuring as she supports the Skud along Stage 9 yesterday Read more here

So that’s me being short and sweet this week (factual and true he he) – so keep spinning those wheels and keep away from the winter lurgies.
To all the kids and parents who are heading off tomorrow morning with Rabbit on the annual Junior Division camp, which is being held at Borland Lodge this year, enjoy yourselves and have a lot of fun and revel in the challenges you will be having. It will be a blast!
