Hi everyone,
Well another week has sailed by and we have two key events to work through before bringing a close to another hugely successful year!
A bit to rattle through this week so here it goes …

First and foremost, a big Cycling Southland welcome to our new general manager Mark Hotton who officially started on board yesterday. We know it will be an exciting journey ahead and we know you will all enjoy meeting him and getting to know Mark better over the coming months.

Southland Track Champs
Entries are coming in thick and fast for our annual track champs being held Friday 11 to Sunday 13 December so get yours in now if you haven’t already Enter online here

This year’s fees will be $5 per event for Cycling Southland members and $10 for non-members per event. Online relicensing and memberships are not active until 1 December so you can register online then. If unable to process this in time, we will accept 2015 licensing for this event as a one-off on this occasion.

This event includes a C1 Para-cycling event with teams from Malaysia and Australia. Can we please ask for volunteers to assist with this event and also any out of town commissaires who are travelling south with their teams – your offer of help would be hugely appreciated due to many of our crew actually taking part in the champs.

Please let me know [email protected] if you can help us out. Sessions are 6pm Friday, 10am and 6pm Saturday and 10am until finished on Sunday.

Road Racing – Gorge Road Memorial
This Saturday is the Gorge Road Memorial Handicap for seniors only. The Curtis Dunn Memorial Junior race has been deferred to the weekend of April 16 when the Gore to Invercargill is held, these races will be key lead-ins to the Road Nationals in Alexandra the following week.  Enter online for the Gorge Road Memorial before midday Thursday

Cycle Surgery-Zookeepers Café Wednesday Worlds
This weekly race is now returning to the Tisbury circuit from tomorrow. Meet at the Tisbury Hall and please do not park cars or congregate anywhere near the school – this is a stipulation of this circuit being used thank you. 6pm registration for 6.30pm racing. Entry $5.

Outside and Lock Up Doors
Time and time again the lock up door and outside entry doors are being left wide open – this is not good enough and is a major property and security issue. Please close the outside door and the lock up door when you are the last through them! We appreciate your assistance with this.

Amazing Race
The end of the road racing season is fast approaching with only two more road races and then we will be hosting the ever-popular Amazing Race-mystery treasure hunt to finish the year off with a social bang on Saturday 5 December. So grab a partner and all teams of two will race off against each other with fun and mayhem along the way, we’re also after some juniors to help at stations along the race course. This is R18 and team entry is $25 Check out details here and enter your teams with me [email protected]

Baxter & Neilson Junior Racing
Series seven was held with the masses in attendance again on Friday night. The final series will be held on 27 November at 6pm. Check out the evening’s winners, series leaders and full results here

Secondary School Sports Awards
I omitted to say a huge congratulations to all our very deserving nominees for this year’s secondary school sports awards held recently. Special congrats to Emma Cumming and Corbin Strong who were the senior girls and junior boys overall winners respectively and Vic Baldwin who was the person with a disability award winner, and also to Brad Knipe who was highly commended in the senior boys. Read all about it

Junior Division Track Camp
A huge well done to Gerald, Sid, Dave and Jane for your skills with the 28 enthusiastic juniors who took part in the Junior Division  Track Camp over the weekend. Well done to all the riders that turned up – looks like you all had a blast, learned new skills and made new friends. All left a little worn out but still with smiles. A big thanks to Wensley’s Cycles and Cycle Surgery for the awesome spot prizes. Thank you to the Borrie family for all the sweets and thanks to Ferg and the U19 riders who came along to help out. Stay tuned for the next camp!

Denton Carnival
Canterbury Track Cycling is again planning a New Year Carnival planned for 8to 10 January 2016, at Denton Park, Christchurch. The would again like to extend an invitation to all Cycling Southland riders to attend.  Last year a large group of riders from Southland  supported  the carnival and contributed to an amazing event.  Discussion around supporting out of town riders has included the possibility of again  billeting riders from our centre.

Billet Wanted for Southland Champs
A Nelson U17 rider Charlotte Grimwood is hoping to find a host to billet her during our upcoming Southland Track Champs. She arrives on the 8th and leaves on the 14th. Word is she is an absolutely great youngster, very polite and well mannered. Let me know if you can help out [email protected]

Righty ho, I feel that is more than enough to digest for another week so we will leave you to get on with your Southland Track Champs entries and other road race entries coming up before Christmas.
Take care out there and happy cycling!
