Welcome to February everyone and we cracked into it with some very exciting results at the Elite and U19 Track Nationals in Cambridge over the past week. Well done to all the team and the great support crew, including manager Dave Beadle and coach Sid Cumming and their band of willing and able helpers. There was some truly spectacular racing, plenty of PBs and the wonderful result of coming into next month’s Age Group champs with an 11 point buffer on points to work on keeping. View the points so far
Also enjoy a great yarn from Road Cycling NZ mag on our very own Matt Archibald and his ability to overcome crashing to conquering – great stuff!
Also a huge congrats on the selection of Eddie, Matt, Pieter and Steph for the next World Cup in Paris in just over a week’s time Read the release here
Next Friday – unlucky for some the 13th of February – is the close off for entries for the Age Groups, so the next job will be to work through getting these all tidied up.
Check out all our bits and bobs, including the Age Group Programme on our Track Nationals page here – the next date to mark is the Age Groups being held from 11-15 March. Keep up the good work on training everyone!
Waitangi Day
This Friday is a public holiday so the Velodrome and Stadium will be closed for the day – enjoy the short week everyone.
Saturday Road Race this weekend
This Saturday – yes 7 February – we kick off the Summer calendar with the Waianiwa-Drummond-Isla Bank road race, which is the first race in the H& J Smith Outdoor summer points series. Remember to check your management and marshalling duties please and ensure you organise your own cover or swap if unable to fulfil these. Register online by midday Friday please as this needs to be graded.

2015 Licensing and Membership
Another reminder that licensing and memberships for 2014 ceased on 31 December so you have to renew – no one can race on either the road or track without a minimum Ride Club or Race Youth or Senior licence and current Cycling Southland membership. These can be arranged directly online through Cycling New Zealand or through me at the office. Contact me [email protected] if you have any queries at all
Wheelers & Flyers
These sessions restart from next Wednesday 11 February for beginner and intermediate kids on Wednesdays and Fridays. Send along the newbies.
Sign in with Track Session Folders
Finally, when attending non-supervised track sessions, please ensure you sign in on the correct session folder, which are stored in the perspex holder inside the bike rack area just at the top of the tunnel entrance – we need this for track accountability, reporting and analysis and need to know numbers attending sessions and the form of payment – albeit cash or concession card – or even the dreaded IOU please. Thank you for your assistance with this.
So that’s it for another instalment for another week, get registering for the February Carnival and Road Race this weekend, as well as the Vital Signs Tour de Lakes 20 anniversary edition at Easter and enjoy this yarn, courtesy of The Southland Times, on our recent Distinction Hotels Milford Mountain Classic winner Tom (Scud) Scully, who’s heading back to Europe. Nice one Tom and safe travels for the adventure ahead!
Have a ripper week everyone
