Happy Tuesday for another week team!

Things are certainly heating up with the Yunca Junior Tour kicking off in two and a half weeks (Friday 30 September). So accordingly, if you have not got your entry in already – get online and do it NOW! You can also register for the ILT Junior Track Carnival combined with the South Island Secondary Schools Track Champs this year, which are being held on Tuesday 3 and Wednesday 4 October.

For the Yunca Junior Tour this year we are also seeking volunteers to marshal please. Contact Danielle admin@cyclingsouth.org.nz to offer your services, this is hugely appreciated in advance.

Training centre update
There was a productive and positive meeting with members held on Monday, attended by Nigel Skelt and Jason McKenzie. They went through what was happening, what it was happening and answered any questions. There’s no doubt there will be a transition period for our organisation as we adjust to the new sharing arrangement but we’re working hard to collaborate with the appropriate organisations and get the best outcome. Click here for minutes from the meeting, details on the proposal and some general plans – note they are indicative only.

If you want more information about what’s planned, contact Mark in the office.

Track hire charges
The executive has reviewed the track charges for the coming season and agreed to a small increase in individual track hire. This will take effect on October 3. Note that being a member entitles you to cheaper track hires than members of the public.

There will be no change to the hourly prices charged, although the two-hour concession cards will rise by $10 to bring them in line with the actual costs. Concession cards remain the cheapest way to ride. Concession cards now remain in the office and are ticked off following each session to help us with our investigation into a cloud-based concession card system.

The new one-hour track hire charges are as follows:

Member               no lights                                             $40
Member               with lights                                         $50
Non-member      no lights                                             $55
Non-member      with lights                                         $60
Derny/motorbike                                                           $15

As of Oct 3, these are the concession card that will be available and the prices:

Junior    (one-hour)                                                    $60
Junior with bike hire (one-hour)                               $70
Junior    (two-hour)                                                   $110
Senior    (one-hour)                                                  $60
Senior with bike hire (one-hour)                              $90
Senior    (two-hour)                                                  $110
Cyclofit with bike hire                                             $50

First Aid Course
We’ve had some interest in a first aid course that could be run the weekend/week before Yunca Junior Tour of Southland. This is a cycling-specific first aid course that focuses on those injuries most likely to occur on the track or road. We need a clearer indication of interest in this to be able to sort out a price and a date.

Please email mark.hotton@cyclingsouth.org.nz if you’re interested and want to find out more.

Bike in tunnel
There is a red Fuji bike with red tape on the handlebars that is padlocked to the railing in the tunnel/ramp to the velodrome. It needs to be removed – no bikes are to be stored in the tunnel – or it will be cut free and removed.

Tour of Southland Bluff Hill Charity Ride
Cyclists wanting to emulate their heroes will have the chance to race on a section of the 60th Anniversary SBS Bank Tour of Southland this year. Members of the public are being challenged to take part in the BDO Bluff Hill charity ride, a 7km journey starting at the Stirling Point signpost in Bluff, through the seaside town and finishing on the summit of Bluff Hill. The bonus is all proceeds raised will be donated to Ronald McDonald House. View the details here and get your entry in now

Baxter & Neilson Junior Race Series
There was great racing across all grades with lots of PB's in the Time Trials and some jerseys were only decided on the results of the last races in each grade on the fourth race night round of Baxter & Neilson on Saturday night. There are a lot of skills showing on the track with new riders still coming each night which is great.
