ILT New Year Track Carnival

This popular New Year Track Carnival is designed as another great lead-in event to the National Track Championships.

The entry fee is $20 per rider, payable in cash on the night. Please remember to bring your money along with you – NO IOU’S. 

Registrations for the ILT New Year Track Carnival close at 12:00pm, Tuesday 14 January. NO late entries will be accepted. 

Session Time:

• 5:00pm - Sign On 
• 5:30pm-6:20pm - Warm Up 
• 6:30pm - Racing starts 
• Approximate Session Time: 3 hours

There will be an Open Track Session on Friday 17 January from 1:00pm to 3:00pm. $10 per rider, just sign in and leave money in the folder at the top of the tunnel please.

Form features at New Year Carnival

Some fine form meant some fierce battles on the boards last night as Cycling Southland’s ILT New Year Carnival kicked off action for 2014 at the SIT Zero Fees Velodrome.

With more than 100 entrants from around the country spread across elite, senior and age group fields, the first night of Carnival action ensured some well-contested racing across all grades as many continued their build up to the Track Nationals in March.

The women’s invitation keirin was a formidable battle of strength and wit as Southland’s elite printer Steph McKenzie said farewell before departing for Cambridge and held off Canterbury’s gritty battler Elizabeth Steel , from a fast returning to form Sequoia Cooper (Southland).

Meanwhile, the men’s open keirin saw Southland’s Karl Watson blaze down from the top of the track with three to go and hold off the persistent chase of the young guns and new BikeNZ Elite representatives Nick Kergozou in second, and Jeremy Presbury in third.

The Carnival action continues tonight (NB: Saturday 18), from 6.30pm and the New Year series will continue with the Ascot Park Hotel Criterium on Sunday morning from 10.30am and the 84^th Gore to Invercargill Classic road race on Monday night.

ARCHIVE: Thrills and spills at New Year Carnival - Night 1 Review

Cycling Southland's New Year track cycling carnival featured thrills and spills on its opening night at Stadium Southland Velodrome tonight.

Riders across all grades fought fiercely throughout the programme, putting on a great show for the crowd and testing themselves in the lead in to Track Nationals.
