Southlanders lead rising stars at Oceanias
Southland's young cycling talent showed plenty of promise in the Oceania Track Cycling championships that finished in Adelaide last night.
While Australia dominated most of the silverware, there was plenty of young flair on display to give considerable encouragement as BikeNZ begins the cycle to the 2014 Commonwealth Games and 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
Final Day Results
The final day of racing at the SuperDrome in Adelaide promised plenty of action with 15 Southlanders in action on the final day of competition at the 2013 Oceania Track Cycling Championships. Pieter Bulling, Jeremy Presbury, Cameron Karwowski, Laura Heywood and Sequoia Cooper made sure that promise was delivered on with medal-winning performances.
Final Day Preview
Saturday at the Oceania Track Cycling Championships promises plenty with 14 Southlanders in action throughout the final day of competition starting at 2:30pm NZ time with Women's Sprint qualifying. Double medalist Steph McKenzie will line up for Southland while Natasha Hansen will ride in NZ colours. <read more>
Bulling holding second at Oceanias
Matt Archibald and Eddie Dawkins finished fifth and sixth respectively in the Mens Sprint after both successfully qualified for the quarter-finals earlier today at the Oceania Track Championships in Adelaide.
Keirin bronze for McKenzie
Southland's Stephanie McKenzie backed up her medal-winning deeds from last night to claim a second championship bronze medal in the Women's Keirin tonight at the Oceania Track Cycling Champs in Adelaide.
Southlanders ready to represent NZ at Oceanias
The 10-strong Southland contingent of the NZ 2013 Oceania Track Champs team are primed and ready to race and it will be exciting times for the many under-23 development squad representatives as they ride out in nationals ranks. New Zealand’s leading track cyclists, including Southland's Eddie Dawkins, Matt Archibald, Sequoia Cooper, Natasha Hansen, Pieter Bulling, Cam Karwowski, Michael Culling, Laura Heywood, Josh Haggerty and Jeremy Presbury, get their first taste of international competition for the new season.
Southland contingent ready for results
The track cycling season begins in earnest this week with a record 17-strong Southland contingent lining up at the Oceania Track Cycling Championships in Adelaide starting Wednesday.
