World champion Aaron Gate has a fight on his hands in an exciting men’s omnium contest at the UCI Oceania Track Cycling Championships in Invercargill.
Talented teenager Dylan Kennett showed a glimpse of his outstanding ability as the omnium competition got underway on the third day of the UCI Oceania Track Cycling Championships at Invercargill this morning.
The elder statesman of the New Zealand men’s track cycling programme, Marc Ryan, got to enjoy his moment in the sun when he took out the individual pursuit title on the second night of finals at the UCI Oceania Track Cycling Championships in Invercargill. The Oceanias are one of five continental championships that now carry qualifying points for next year’s world championships and also ranking points for the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Southland sprinter Eddie Dawkins produced a stunning final lap to guide the New Zealand men’s team sprint to a well-earned win on the first session of the UCI Oceania Track Cycling Championships in Invercargill.
Kiwi cyclist Aaron Gate signalled he is on track to defend his world title after winning the omnium at the UCI Festival of Speed event at Invercargill today.
Big Southland sprinter Eddie Dawkins brought the local crowd to their feet with a superb performance to win the keirin final at the UCI Festival of Speed event at Invercargill tonight.
Smaller fields, due to illness and other commitments didn’t make the racing any less fierce at Baxter & Neilson on Friday night. With the Velodrome all set up for the Festival of Speed and Oceanias, there was a great feeling in the air and some excellent racing.
Southland riders Tom Scully, Sophie Williamson and Emma Cumming all featured strongly to take silver at last night's Jerry Clayton BMW Criterium National Championships in Auckland.
