Southlanders featured prominently in the New Zealand omnium track cycling event held in Cambridge recently, with Cam Karwowski and Kirstie James finishing third in the elite men's and women's events respectively.
The cream rose to the top with 2013 world champion Aaron Gate and Olympian Lauren Ellis winning the New Zealand omnium track cycling titles in Cambridge on Friday, while Southlanders Cameron Karwowski and Kirstie James podiumed and young Nick Kergozou really showed some form to lead after three events, only to be broken in the gruelling 160 lap points race.
Barry Harcourt beat a field of 50 riders to win the 78km Geo W Wilson & Son Ltd-Southland Farm Machinery Ltd Gore to Waikiwi Cycling Classic handicap road race on Saturday.
