Cycling Southland has had the busiest and most rewarding year in it’s history writes Cycling Southland President Lindsay Jordan.

Cycling Southland's incredible year was capped yesterday with the naming of Eddie Dawkins, Phillipa Gray and Sophie Williamson as nominees for next year's Halberg Awards.

After a huge weekend at the Southland Champs numbers were down this week at club racing so thank you to those who turned up and helped out!

Congratulations to all riders who have been named in the Southland team (Elite & U19) and Southland Training Squads (U15-U17 & Masters) for the 2013 Track Nationals.

Another stack of strong performances were the feature of the final day of Southland Track Cycling Championships held at Stadium Southland Velodrome today.

The second day of racing featured sprints and Points races along with the first ever championship Masters Women bunch race – and every one of them featured top quality racing.

Local Olympians of the future, Southland's ace U19 sprinter Jeremy Presbury and Central Otago's flying Liam Aitcheson are among a six-strong Kiwi team heading to the Youth Olympic Festival in Sydney next month.

With riders pumped and primed for Southland Champs this weekend, it was time to step back and look at the MASSIVE strides of improvement everyone has made over the track season so far.

Saturday at the Oceania Track Cycling Championships promise plenty with 14 Southlanders in action throughout the final day of competition.

The final day of racing at the SuperDrome in Adelaide promised plenty of action with 15 Southlanders in action on the final day of competition at the 2013 Oceania Track Cycling Championships. Pieter Bulling, Jeremy Presbury, Cameron Karwowski, Laura Heywood and Sequoia Cooper made sure that promise was delivered on with medal-winning performances.

Day 5 in Adelaide and it’s fair to say no one was leaping out of bed in the morning after so many days in the intense heat.

Matt Archibald and Eddie Dawkins finished fifth and sixth respectively in the Mens Sprint after both successfully qualified for the quarter-finals earlier today at the Oceania Track Championships in Adelaide.

They promised that Thursday, our 4th day here, would be the hottest – up around 40 degrees, and it certainly lived up to expectations, with rain coming in during the afternoon increasing the humidity ten-fold.  Good fast racing conditions!

Southland's Stephanie McKenzie backed up her medal-winning deeds from last night to claim a second championship bronze medal in the Women's Keirin tonight at the Oceania Track Cycling Champs in Adelaide.
