The big Australian contingent taking part in the Yunca Junior Tour of Southland this weekend don't have to look far into the record books for inspiration.
A record field of 189 will take to the highways of Southland over the weekend for Cycling Southland’s annual Yunca-sponsored Junior Tour of Southland.
The idea of running a Secondary School Team Sprint Competition – along the lines of the highly successful Corporate Pursuit – is an idea that has been bandied around in Cycling Southland circles for many years.
Multiple PowerNet Tour of Southland winner Hayden Roulston will join fellow World Tour professionals Julian Dean and Jack Bauer in next week’s BikeNZ team to ride the Men’s road race the UCI Road World Championships in The Netherlands.
A strong Southland contingent has been named as part of a young BikeNZ squad named to compete in the Oceania Track Cycling Championships in Adelaide in November.
Southland’s Phillippa Gray with Laura Thompson collected a silver medal on the roads on day seven of the Paralympics in London today.
