Southland’s Phillipa Gray and pilot Laura Thompson claimed seventh place in the bunch sprint for bronze in the Individual B road race on the final day of the Paralympics.

They were in a five-way sprint for the bronze medal at the end of the 80km road race, 10 laps of the undulating motor race circuit at Brands Hatch.

The pair were in the lead pack until mid race when the Canadian and Spanish riders went clear, with Robbi Weldon (CAN) winning (with Lyne Bessette) in 2:08.26.

Yesterday Ngatea handcart cyclist Sue Reid (pictured) hung tough on the gruelling H1-3 road race course to finish a creditable eighth in 2 hours 39 seconds.

The New Zealand cycling campaign enjoyed outstanding success with four medals including one gold, a silver and two bronze medals under head coach Brendon Cameron.
