And so it ends. Five days of incredible competition, endless conversations with teams event organisers, volunteers and officials drew to a close today at Melbourne's Hisense Arena. This week has provided a huge amount of information and ideas which we can utilise immediately for our upcoming hosting of Junior Worlds, but also further develop across all of the events we at Cycling Southland deliver during the year.
Saturday had some living up to after Good Friday turned in to great Friday for the Southland sprinters - Eddie, Matt and Tarsh all qualifying with new personal bests, all of which were new fastest times for a New Zealander ever.
Friday was a pretty special day to be a Southlander at the World Cycling Champs as firstly Matt Archibald and then Eddie Dawkins set new low times for a New Zealander in the Men's sprint qualifying.
Nicknamed Rhino, Manawatu’s Simon Van Velthooven produced a beast of a performance to win the bronze medal in the gruelling 1000m time trial at the UCI Track Championships in Melbourne tonight.
Another one off the bucket list – Thursday morning allowed for a small window to visit the famous old lade of Australian sport, the Melbourne Cricket Ground, or as the Aussies affectionately call it, the ‘G.
All that glitters is not gold as the New Zealand team found out with two outstanding bronze medals on the opening night of the UCI Track Championships in Melbourne tonight.
