SSTC Overall Boys winners 2014Listening to the rain and hail on the roof of the SIT Zero Fees Velodrome made us all very happy to be warm and comfortable inside, ready for a great day of inter-school’s racing at the annual South Island Secondary School Champs.

First time using the Winton Golf Club circuit and it was a beautiful sunny day with gentle southerly to cool the sweat on the brow in the punch down to Lochiel Bridge.

A nice warm night and fast track made for some good racing this week.  While some of the elite riders cooled their heels after the Festival of Speed and Oceanias, others continued with their build up toward Southland Champs, showing they would be a force to be reckoned with next weekend!

Marc Ryan wins the IP goldThe elder statesman of the New Zealand men’s track cycling programme, Marc Ryan, got to enjoy his moment in the sun when he took out the individual pursuit title on the second night of finals at the UCI Oceania Track Cycling Championships in Invercargill. The Oceanias are one of five continental championships that now carry qualifying points for next year’s world championships and also ranking points for the 2016 Rio Olympics.
