Last weekend I was lucky enough to be selected to compete at the 2011 Sydney International Sprint Grand Prix in Australia.

Some of New Zealand's best young cyclists will take to the roads of Southland from tomorrow for the three-day Junior Tour of Southland.

New Zealand track stars Westley Gough and Peter Latham will spearhead the Subway team for this year's Tour of Southland.

Thursday 20 October is the deadline for anyone wishing to register their interest in being considered for the 2012 Oceania Track Cycling Champs being held at the ILT Velodrome from Monday 21 November to Thursday 24 November 2011.

This weekend features Cycling Southland’s 2011 edition of the Yunca Junior Tour of Southland. Over recent years this event has developed into one of the premier junior tours in Australasia and this year more than 180 riders including 40 from across the Tasman take on the highways of the south. 

Thankfully the weather Gods were kind to us this weekend and we enjoyed a lovely sunny day

Another great night of Friday Track racing was enjoyed by all, kicked off by the Juniors at 6pm

He is one of New Zealand's best chances for a medal at the the Olympics, but track cyclist Shane Archbold is taking nothing for granted less than a year out from London. A silver medallist in the omnium at this year's world championships, the 22-year-old from Timaru has based himself in Invercargill this week to put in extra time at the ILT Velodrome before BikeNZ's next official camp starts there on October 13.

The sixth and final round of the Cycling Southland junior division road race series proved to be a great hit out ahead of the upcoming Yunca Junior Tour of Southland on Saturday.

Saturday's race was run on the, now legendary, Beast of the East Circuit, in ideal racing conditions.

Big numbers make for exciting racing at ILT Velodrome.

Racing on Friday at the ILT Velodrome kicked off with the Juniors at 6.30pm, who put on one of the most inspiring, exciting nights of racing so far this season to get us all into the racing spirit!

Cycling Southland's junior cyclists face a busy few days on both road and track with the latest chapter in the Baxter & Neilson Track Racing Series to be held tonight, followed by Saturday’s sixth and final Points Series road race at Te Tipua.

Share the Road will be without world championship representative Jack Bauer this year but still holds lofty ambitions for this year's PowerNet Tour of Southland.

The banning of race radios on this year's Tour of Southland would create a level playing field without compromising safety, race director Bruce Ross said yesterday.

A great night of racing had by all!! The heat's coming on in the A Grade especially as the track season gets well and truely underway. 

Cycling Southland's Sophie Williamson earned a top 20 finish in her first appearance at the World Juniors Road Championships in Copenhagen tonight, finishing the 70 kilometre journey in 18th place while older brother James was unlucky to get caught behind a crash in the final stages of the U23 Men's race.
