New Zealand track stars Westley Gough and Peter Latham will spearhead the Subway team for this year's Tour of Southland.

The two endurance riders are aiming for a spot in the New Zealand team for next year's Olympics.

They will be joined on the Southland tour from October 30 by Sam Horgan, Nick Lovegrove, Paul Odlin and Ian Smallman.

Subway Pro Cycling team manager Hayden Godfrey believes this is the strongest squad the team has produced for a Tour of Southland.

"We have a strong, well-rounded team and expect to feature prominently during the tour this year," Godfrey said.

"The team has been racing very well together and really looking forward to getting some results in Southland this year."

Subway's chances over the past two years have been ruined by serious crashes.

"We are looking forward to some good, safe, incident-free racing this year.

"There have been some changes made to the tour stages to freshen things up, which add another exciting element."
