Baxter and Neilsen Yellow Jersey Winners - April 2011

29/04/2011 - Tonight saw the first night of racing in the Baxter & Neilson Plumbers Series and what a great night it was.  Numbers may have been down due to it still being the school holidays however that did not stop there being some very determined performances by the riders taking part.

We started with the 250TT for the Under 13 boys and Corbin Strong rocked home in 25.64 with Ronan Ferguson chasing him with a 30.65.

Makayla Smith dominated in the Under 15 girls with a time of 44.8 for her 500TT and this was followed by some fierce competition between the Under 15 boys with Liam Haggerty winning with a time of 38.63 followed by Josh Carpenter, 40.20 and in third Hamish Beadle with a time of 41.50.

Under 17 girls was fought out between Jen Muhl, 42.61 and Laura Heywood, 44.415.  In the Under 17 boys we had a great showing of new comers to Junior Div however Josh Haggerty still claimed first with a 36.6 followed by Brynn McCallum with a tremendous effort for a 39.18 and in third George Blackie with a 40.6.

We then moved on to scratch races Corbin & Ronan did a 750m Derby with Corbin taking line honours.  Poor old Makayla had to race with the boys but never fear she did not disgrace herself.  Josh won for the boys with Liam second just mms behind and Hamish chasing hard for third.  A good effort by Brayden Stephens also in this race to claim 4th.  Again the girls joined in with the boys for a real battle of the sexes. Jen claimed gold again from Laura and in the boys Josh Haggerty just beat out George with Brynn a wee way back in third.

Final races of the nights were the points races. Again Corbin took out the Under 13 Boys, Makayla the Under 15 Girls, Josh Carpenter the Under 15 Boys, Jen Muhl the Under 17 Girls and again a close battle between Josh Haggerty and George Blackie with Josh winning the Under 17 Boys.

A great way to start the Series off and here’s to bigger and better racing next time.
