A reminder to all Club members that we are hosting a Garage Sale as part of this event and it is a great opportunity to clear out some bike parts, clothing etc and offer them as a donation with proceeds going back to the club - if all donations can be delivered to the Cycling Southland office by Thursday 4 September please - greatly appreciated!
The continued growth of cycling in Southland will be celebrated at a public Gala Night showcasing junior and senior track talent and a fun carnival-styled atmosphere for all the family to enjoy at the SIT Zero Fees Velodrome on Friday 5 September.
The open club night is an opportunity for the Southland community to visit the track and see it in action with fun, spot prizes, senior and junior club racing, a garage sale and chance to see where all the success of the latest Commonwealth Games track team had been based in recent years, Cycling Southland event manager Bruce Ross said.
“Built more than eight years ago as the country’s first indoor velodrome, it is still evident that there are many locals who have yet to experience a track racing event. We want to make it as accessible as possible to families, friends, business groups and anyone at all who wishes to come down to our Gala Night and enjoy something different on a Friday night for just a gold coin donation.
“Every day there are dozens of cyclists of all ages and abilities down at the track for regular public and school bookings, senior and junior racing and a variety of other public track sessions. We’re combining a selection of these sessions, including junior and senior race nights, school children and the current Club Omnium series that is being run post Corporate Pursuit. It is a chance to give the public a taste of how popular and accessible the sport of cycling is - both actively and as a spectator.”
The entertainment will include, music, racing, cycling displays, a garage sale of cycling equipment, bikes and clothing and spot prizes for the crowd.
“We’re challenging anyone who hasn’t been along to the velodrome to make a night of it, bring their family, friends and neighbours along and enjoy the experience first-hand,” Mr Ross said.
The Cycling Southland Gala Night is being held on Friday 5 September from 6pm to 9pm and entry is just a gold coin donation at the door.
