Lone Star LogoHaving a quiet with a few workmates took on a new meaning for some local businesses recently.  A number of extra shades of red and white were on display upon the faces of the competitors at the first and second heats of the recent roller racing challenge.

The faces changed colour as quickly as the revolutions of the pedals were spun over the 500m distance. The Lone Star and Speights sponsored-event sees teams of four race together on the fixed wheeled machines to establish a combined team time that will determine where they sit amongst the 29 WHK Corporate Pursuit teams from around Southland over the coming weeks.

Placing themselves at the top of heat one was the team from SBS Bank who not only took out the team effort but also secured fastest male and female on the night.

The new initiative is being run in conjunction with the training schedules the teams are taking on at the velodrome before competing in the annual WHK Corporate Pursuit in August.  Heats are held each Thursday evening at the Lone Star starting at 7pm with the finals being raced on Wednesday 24 July.
