57 riders fronted up for the annual Riverton Handicap race on Saturday 28th of August. It was a new circuit which started from the cemetery to Fairfax, Isla Bank to Otautau and back to the Riverton Cemetery covering 60km.

The course meet with a lot of favourable comment with its variety of hills and flats. The weather was outstanding with clear blue sky, no wind and unseasonably warm weather.

Once again Limit crossed the line first with Marty Lohrey leading the bunch home in a time of 1hr 43:40. Janet Hodgetts was 2nd followed in by Shelley Findlater.

Fastest time was recorded by Brad Tuhi in a time of 1hr 20min which was an outstanding result as the scratch markers included Piet Bulling and a host of other powerful riders.

The Scratch group couldn't peg back any of the bunches in front of them but the difference from 1st to Brad was only 3min. All the other markers were squashed in between which made for a pretty compressed finish and showed the thrill of the handicap race.

Prize giving was held in the garden bar of the Carriers Arms back in Riverton. A big thank you to hosts Jenny and Allan Pulley and to all the marshals. Thanks to Sid Cumming for giving me a hand in the managerial role!
