Simon Lusk on his way to gold at the Age Group Champs28/03/2011 - Cycling Southland member Simon Lusk followed up his gold medal winning deeds at the RaboDirect National Track Championships earlier this month with a fourth place finish at the Australian Masters Track Cycling Champs in Sydney over the weekend.

Wellington-based Lusk, who showed HUGE committment in travelling to Invercargill to train and ride (and attend the after-party) for the Southland Track team this season, qualified third fastest in the Men's 50-54 2000m Individual Pursuit with 2'25.185.

He faced the defending champion David Fairburn from Bendigo in the bronze medal ride and missed a podium finish by just half a second, finishing in 2'26.854.

In Australia with larger numbers, Masters track categories are in five year age brackets, as is the case with Master Road categories in New Zealand. The Masters 5 category for 50-54 year olds races its IP over 2000 metres, as opposed to the 3000 metre distance Simon travelled to win his Masters 2 gold in March.
