Hi everyone,

Well the 2014 Crowe Horwath Corporate Pursuit business teams are starting to get revved up and ready for competition time in just over five weeks and it is great see many regulars back along with a few newcomers to our key annual track event on winter calendar! Welcome aboard everyone and may your training go smoothly, as you build your team pursuit speed in time for Time Trial day on Sunday 29 June, followed by competition day on Sunday 6 July.

A big thank you to our Track Bike master-repairer Gerald Paterson and his willing aide Craig Sadlier for the numerous hours they have spent down at the track lately giving all the bikes a good, old once-over and a bit of TLC in readiness for the very busy coming weeks ahead.  Your hours of assistance are invaluable and hugely appreciated!

With numerous school bookings, including NCEA and Corporate Pursuit training times it is imperative that we ask for some assistance to help keep our bikes in order.

Please do NOT change or adjust any of our Cycling Southland track bikes (you may adjust the seat height and this is all), but no pedal changing etc. Also please take care to hold bikes for standing starts by the seat stem and bike frame – not the seat! There are right and wrong ways to hold which you can view on the home page here

A reminder to let Melissa know at the office if your team will be requiring any additional prizegiving meal tickets so these can be ordered in time.

Also, check out the latest Time Trial and Speights-Lonestar Roller Racing time schedules here

Finally, to all our Corporate Pursuiters. Cycling Southland is keen to get as many of your friends and family down to support your efforts on the track. Don’t forget to talk about how your training is going – make them understand what it is like flying around at 50kph on a 43% banking! - perhaps even mention those ‘recovery’ drinks after a long session! Check out Check out what we would like you to get up to this year!

Annual Prizegiving
A reminder that our Cycling Southland Annual Prizegiving will be held on Friday 6 June, at the Ascot Park Hotel, from 7pm. There will be a variety of awards up for presentation again, including Junior and Senior, contribution, off the bike and people’s choice awards. Bar facilities will be available and some nibbles will be available too. This is a chance to celebrate the achievements within our club over the past year, so see Melissa at the office to get your tickets now – just $15 each – and we look forward to another great night together.

Can all last year’s recipients please return their trophies to the office.

Senior Racing – Tonight
A reminder that senior racing is back on tonight, from 7-9pm, with handicap racing over eight, 10 and 12 laps. The more the merrier and numbers are starting to build – so see you down there!

Junior Racing – this Friday!
Get excited everyone – Junior Division Racing restarts this Friday 23 May and will run from 6-8pm for the next two weeks. It will then reduce to 6-7pm for the month of June (4 weeks total) until resuming to 6-8pm. Baxter & Neilson racing will be scheduled and announced to run during these times moving forward.

So get ready to blow the track cobwebs away and see you at the track Friday for a 6pm start.

Thank you very much
Finally a big thank you goes out to Bruce Jones who initiated some fundraising for ongoing track bike maintenance and repairs through sourcing and dealing with a pile of scrap metal from his work at SouthPort. This effort is hugely appreciated – as are all efforts made towards ongoing events and fundraising made by our individual club members and many business supporters in the community – Great stuff and thank you all again!

James Williamson Junior training and race day
On Sunday 25 May, James Williamson will be holding a junior skills training and race day in Alexandra Click here to find out more

So enjoy as we get the track cranking again for all things cycling! Keep dry and cosy – and keep those wheels spinning everyone.

Take care for another week
