Hello everyone for another week and yes it looks like fine weather ahead for the 33rd Yunca Junior Tour of Southland, which starts on Friday at Teretonga, heads to Te Tipua on Saturday and finishes on Sunday with the inner city criterium and Grove Bush stage.
A huge welcome to all our out of town visitors and good luck to everyone who is competing – we hope you have a great tour experience and achieve personal goals with your times and results.

ILT Junior Track Carnival and South Island Secondary School Track Champs
Don’t forget these events are being held on Tuesday 4 October, starting with the schools time trials at 3pm and the Carnival from 6.30pm, then both events from 6pm on Wednesday 5 October. Head on down and support all the juniors in these events – or give us a yell at the office if you can lend a hand during the events.
Open track times follow leading into the events - cost $10 per rider each session. A sign-in folder will be at the top of the tunnel entrance each day.
Monday 3rd: 9am - 4pm
Tuesday 4th: 9am - 12pm / 1 - 2pm
Wednesday 5th: 10am - 12pm / 1 - 4pm
School Squads and Holidays
A reminder that there are no junior track sessions over the two-week holiday break. This includes Tuesday Rockets and Secondary Students and Wednesday and Friday Wheelers and Flyers. These will all resume in the new school term. Meanwhile, all squad training will continue leading into the Southland Track Champs.
Southland Track Champs
These are now being held from Friday 25 to Sunday 27 November. Entries are now open online
Wednesday Worlds
These kick off again Wednesday 5 October on the Tisbury circuit so meet at Tisbury School - 6pm sign in for 6.30pm racing. Entry $5.
Road Racing
Another great field turned out for the Woodlands Handicap race on Saturday Read the great race report . The next race is Dacre-Hedgehope-Dacre Graded on Saturday 8 October with 70km for A, B and C grades and 32km for juniors and social riders. Meet at the Dacre Hall at the earlier race time of 10am for a 10.30am race start. Register online now
Equipment Return
Can anyone who has cycling equipment such as flashing lights, signage and radios please return it to the Velodrome as we urgently need all equipment for the upcoming road tour season thank you.
BMX Open Day
The Southland BMX Club is holding an open day on Sunday 9 October from 1.30-3.30pm at Elizabeth Park in Lime Street check out the details

Finally, we wish our truly great sprinter Matt Archibald, along with fellow NZ high performance sprinter Ben Stewart, all the very best for the future after the official announcement of their retirement from cycling yesterday.
