Happy Wednesday everyone and the sunshine and warmth continues in the Deep South the day after a NZ shared the top temperature of 19 or so the past couple of days!
Well the Australian Balmoral Cycling crew arrived in the city last night in preparation for this weekend’s 31st Yunca Junior Tour of Southland, which starts with the Time Trial at Teretonga on Friday at 11am. Despite some numbers being a little lighter again this year with the timing of the Oceas in Adelaide and other factors, there is guaranteed to be some great racing again as some of the country’s finest juniors give the Southland roads their best shot! A big pre-event thank you to everyone who has again put their hand up to help make this event the popular success it is – the many volunteer helpers, whether it is standing on a road corner with a flag, timing or managing the event – you are our life blood. We are always eternally grateful to each and every one of you! Read a small preview featured yesterday
Adelaide Track Oceas
Good luck to our NZ U19 reps – Emma, Makayla, Tom and Hamish – who fly out this morning in preparation for the Oceas in Adelaide today. Go super-fast everyone and good luck to our large Southland contingent as they also do their final preparations before heading out over the next few days. We can’t wait to hear how things are going.
Big thank you to Erin and her team for another successful Winter Series race with the Beast of the East last weekend. Results and series leader board updates coming.
A reminder that there is no racing this weekend due to the Yunca Tour, the next race will be the Donovan Graded Points Race on Saturday 11 October. This is a 10km circuit race – Div 1 & 2 - 50km, Div 3 - 40km, Div 4 - 30km, Junior Div 3 - 10km. Marshalls are L Heywood, G Perkins, S Milne and K Kilpatrick. Register online here
Also, in the absence of the race managers not being in the south, The Hell of the South scheduled for Sunday 12 October has now been cancelled for this year.
Wednesday Worlds ready to restart
Not this Thursday but next Thursday – 9 October – (due only this time on a Thursday to the Junior Track Carnival) Wednesday Worlds will resume for the summer season. It will then resume back to Wednesdays. Remember it is a 6pm report for 6.30pm race start at Rimu School. $5 entry – mark your diaries now.
Road Bike Availability
Has anyone grown out of their road bike and is keen to move it on – if so, we could perhaps hire it out on an appro’ agreement to young riders who are eager to get road racing with the view they could purchase from you?
If anyone is keen to get on board let me know firstname.lastname@example.org, as I currently have a couple of junior riders on standby.
