New leadership appointment for Cycling Southland
Cycling Southland has appointed Mark Hotton as its new General Manager.
Mark will join Cycling Southland from The Southland Times, where he has held a senior leadership role since 2012.
He has held several management roles throughout his career in various media organisations and is well versed in juggling numerous tasks, dealing with change and working in high-pressure situations with looming deadlines.
A born-and-bred Southlander, Mark left to study at the University of Otago before embarking on a career in journalism, working on newspapers and magazines in both New Zealand and London.
He returned to Southland in 2009 with his wife, Suzanne, and they have since had two children.
Mark said his involvement in cycling remains at an amateur level – he has competed in three Corporate Cycling challenges with The Southland Times team, several endurance mountain biking events and other mountain biking races throughout Southland – but is looking forward to spending more time in the saddle.
“I’m excited about the role and the challenges to be faced, but I am looking forward to building positive and valuable relationships with staff, key stakeholders, cyclists of all abilities and the countless volunteers that help make Cycling Southland such an impressive organisation.”
Cycling Southland president Lindsay Jordan thanked acting general manager Brian Broad for his time and experience over recent months.
“It is exciting to know Mark will be joining the team and helping to lead the organisation through the next stage of its thrilling journey.
“The organisation continues to grow and evolve and the number of new junior riders coming on board recently is at an all-time high. We look forward to having Mark on the team to help nurture the growth of our exciting sport and world-class facility.”
Mark will commence on 16 November 2015 when Brian’s contract ends.
Cycling Executive
Sport Southland Chief Executive Brendon McDermott has been co-opted on to the Cycling Southland executive and Adam McLeay has been elected Vice-President.
The executive is now Lindsay Jordan (President), Adam McLeay (Vice President),Toni Green, Erin Criglington, Reece McDonald and Brendon McDermott.
The Selectors are Sid Cumming, Waine Harding and Erin Criglington and the Patron is Tony Ineson.

Baxter & Neilson Junior Division Racing
Another fantastic night for Round 5 on Friday night before a big break until Round 6 is held post our high Octane October events on Saturday (yes Saturday) 30 October from 5-8pm.
A big thank you to all the parent helpers who have helped Gerald out on Fridays for all junior race nights and thank you to the Borrie Family for their donation of the huge packet of Pineapple lumps – everybody loved them!
Also thanks to the Pedlers for the t-shirts for prizes.

Junior Road Experience at Teretonga
With some awesome negotiation, Norma at Teretonga has kindly agreed to let our U15s and U132, who are riding the Yunca Junior Tour this year, to get a feel of the Time Trial circuit at Teretonga this Thursday at 5pm onwards. The gate will be locked and a parent will ring and check that bookings have not changed. Kids are to meet at the gate and the all-clear will be given to –pass the bikes over the fence etc and have a whirl on the raceway. Meet just before 5pm if you are keen.
Great Southern Cycle Challenge
Don’t forget to note – with everything else that’s on over the coming few weeks, that the Great Southern Cycle Challenge – run by the Rotary Club of Invercargill South is also looming on the horizon and will be held again on Saturday 17 October. Good Luck World Masters Champs!
Finally, we wish our World Masters current champ of the 40-44 years individual pursuit and points race, along with the bronze medal in the team sprint, Erin Criglington and another of our magical Masters, Neil Familton all the best as they depart over the coming week (Neil leaves on the 28th and Erin on the 30th) to take on the boards of Manchester for the next World Masters Track Champs. Good luck to both of you – we hope you bring home personal victory!
