Bike Fit Opportunities
We have a local physiotherapy based bike set up service here in Invercargill. I have been setting up many cyclists in the region including Cycling Southland members from Juniors to Open and Masters riders for road, TT, track and MTB for the past few years.
I am a Physiotherapist and provide a individualised set up for each athlete. The process involves a full body muscle strength, length and control assessment followed by personalised set up for the individual and their specific event and relevant exercises to optimise position and efficiency.
I have been a cyclist for over 10 years mainly competing in road and TT events nationally and internationally. I have just returned from working as Physio with the New Zealand Paracycling Team in Italy at the World Track Champs and Canada for the teams pre Rio summer training camp.
Previously I have completed bike set up courses in New Zealand and upskilled again this past year in Australia.
Currently I am available to do bike set ups at the weekends and from October will be establishing a new Physiotherapy Clinic in Invercargill where I am looking forward to being able to provide a bike set up service again on weekdays.

Blair Martin is a physio and also a cyclist. He has competed in the Tour of Southland a few times as well as tours in Australia where he was living up to a year ago. He has a business called Wheel Dynamic’s which he has brought to Dunedin. He is keen to come down and do bike fits for ours juniors (or seniors) for a reduced fee. Alan Strong had Blair set up Hayden’s bike and said he is very good. Hayden says he feels much more comfortable and more powerful with the correct set up. Blair has recently returned from Cambridge where Tri NZ had him setting up their athletes.
Blair has offered to come down for one weekend in August and help set up anyone who is interested. If you think you would be interested in doing this could you please let us know so we can get an idea on numbers and decide if it’s worth Blair making the trip down. [email protected]
Heart Ride for Kids
It's that time of the year again, when Steve Rhodes – hot off the back of Corporate Pursuiting and Jason Gerken are looking for riders to join them to ride from Milford Sound to Invercargill, to raise funds for their adopted charity, The Southland Heart Kids!
Whether you have joined them before, or would like to join for the first time, either as a team or an individual, they would love to have you on board for totally epic ride – all while getting the buzz of doing it to help our own local Heart kids and their families!
If you are interested, or know of anyone that would be interested in doing the ride, you can email Steve at [email protected]
Finally, huge congrats to Central Otago-Wakatipu and Southland member Mikayla Harvey who has just been selected to race the Junior World Road Champs for New Zealand. Read the announcement Good luck with your build up and we’ll be cheering on as well.
Well it’s short and sweet for a change this week – so go, go, go all our young stars racing overseas. Huge good luck Emma, Brad, Tom, Nicole, Ellesse, Hayden and Hamish!
Keep warm and dry everyone else
