Wow, if ever there was an exciting week to be had – last week’s Age Group & Under 19 Omnium Track National Championships were certainly something to write home about!

Everyone from the amazing riders with all their PBs and records, coupled with a max-out of valuable points to totally harness the Points Shield for a record ninth year, to the manager, coaches, handlers and family supporters who got behind the challenge and gave the event their everything. Once again the Southland team and our wonderful SIT Zero Fees Velodrome were the envy of all other centres as the championships ran like a well-oiled machine. You should all still feel super proud Team Southland and the kudos and great write ups continue today with our first-year U17 Emily Paterson in the limelight

All other write ups are on our home page and Facebook – along with all the results and other bits and bobs on our Track Nationals event page Enjoy the accolades they are every bit deserved.

Age Groups
What a fantastic five days it was! A big thank you to the office team of Bruce, Danielle, and Melissa, as well as organisers Lindsay Jordan and Ray Robinson. There was a lot that went on behind the scenes to get things ready.

Also a big thank you to Jacqui and Kara for the great work they did managing the team, as well as the coaches - especially Sid, Dave, Nick, Gerald, and Fergus - in getting the riders ready.
And a big thanks to all the riders in the way you conducted yourselves both on and off the track ... and in the superb riding you all produced. We've kept the shield for a record 9th times - that's an awesome effort.
And finally, I’ve saved the most important for last, a big thanks to all those who volunteered their time and assisted in some way, whether it be the set up team, the timing gang, team handlers or dealing with the tickets. Your help is truly appreciated – it’s what gives our event that special Southland flavour (something noticed and commented on by the North Island teams).

Mark (GM) – and thanks for  your work too Mark (Milly)

Survey

Club Road Nationals Jerseys
We have ordered more Southland jerseys for the Club Road Nationals and the cost will be around $80 if you wish to buy your own from us. Otherwise it’s a $10 hire. I will let you all know when they are in the office to collect.

The Nationals are being held in Alexandra 21 to 24 April and help is needed with running the event. Would you like to be involved? Please click on this link to see how you could get a front row seat: http://tinyurl.com/nationals-volunteers
Please reply now, as the event is fast approaching.

Road Racing
We are in the final weeks of the Cycle Surgery-Zookeepers Café Wednesday Worlds so make sure you head out to the corner of Oteramika and Kennington-Waimatua Road for the 6.30pm race start.

This Saturday is the Gore to Waikiwi Classic meeting at the Gore Showgrounds at 10am for a 10.30pm race start. Entry is $20 and the prizegiving will be held in the Sarah Ulmer Lounge at the end of the race. We would love the help of all volunteers for marshalling please. There will be junior racing too just $5, with the Curtis Dunn Memorial Road Race. Juniors will be starting at Grove Bush Hall with a 18km handicap. Assembly is 10am for a 10:30am race start.

Track Updates|
Meanwhile, all track sessions return to normal – minus squad training and Masters and Sprint Squad restart from next Wednesday night  and Mondays resume after Easter due to a bunch of Girl Guides being here next Monday and then the long weekend. There will also be no Junior Racing on Friday nights for a while as you are encouraged out on the road over coming months so Friday afternoon Flyers will recommence instead.

So short and sweet again today because we’re all still in recovery mode but it doesn’t detract from the fact that Allan Dunn has some great entries again for the 21st Tour de Lakes, at Easter, the Secondary School Road Champs on 6 April, the Club Road Nationals 21-24 April and then it will be Corporate Pursuit time again – so just enough to keep it exciting over the coming months.

Take care everyone
