Well everyone, action-time has arrived and this Friday we launch in earnest a trifecta of divine events with the 32nd Yunca Junior Tour of Southland with 100 riders from throughout NZ heading our way to tackle three days of stages around the south – so head on out to the tour routes and cheer them on. We wish all our junior riders the very best of luck over the coming days.

Then it’s on to our Junior Track Carnival from 7pm both Tuesday 6th and Wednesday 7th here on the boards. More great racing is promised with around 100 entries across the age groups. Make sure you head along and cheer everyone on.

Then as all the junior events unfold the crème de la crème of Australian and Kiwi Elite and U19 cycling will be descending on the city in readiness for the ultimate Trans-Tasman track battle for the Oceania Champs from Thursday 8th to Sunday 11th October. With more than 150 riders and two sessions every day, there is going to be a lot of fantastic racing in our state of the art Velodrome! It will be particularly exciting to welcome back all our Elite campaigners from their northern base in Cambridge

As a feature of the upcoming Oceas, we’re offering a special one-off deal to our members to attend a Corporate Function with Cycling New Zealand High Performance Coach Dayle Cheatley.

Road Racing – Gore to Waikiwi – totally classic!
Well it was a Classic race with a classic result from a classic kind of guy when our 75-year-old veteran Barry Harcourt from Te Anau took the honours of winning in great conditions last Saturday. Nice one Bazza! Read all about it here

As a result of the Oceania Champs – there will be no road race held on Saturday 10 October – contrary to the race programme that’s been put out. There is also no race this weekend due to the Yunca Tour.

The next race is the Great Southern Cycle Challenge on 17 October so get your entries in now

Cycling Southland Etiquette
Just a general reminder please that our Club has a strong track etiquette and code of behaviour which must be adhered to at all times. We thank you for your co-operation with this.

Hitting the headlines over the past week have been Matt Zenovich and his return from Europe and our Southland Omnium crew who did admirably Check out the national article and the local article – well done team on your efforts!

Well that’s more than enough to keep you all excited for the next 10 days – so support all these events and enjoy the ride.

Good luck to all our competitors and those travelling for these action-packed events.
