Hi folks,

Big sighs and deep breaths! Another SBS Bank Tour of Southland is done and dusted and a ripper it was too – right down to the very last stage with some tightly contested points. Congrats and well done again to all our Cycling Southland riders who took part and big ups to Matt Zenovich on his sprint ace win and following the honours that Tom Scully took out last year. Also to Luke Macpherson who seriously put his hand up in the KOM coming third, Robert Huisman for being the highest finishing Southland rider, Travis Kane for completing his 15th consecutive tour, PowerNet and H&J Smith Outdoor World teams for finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively in the final team standings, Tom Scully and Tom Vessey for certainly making themselves known during the tour stages and final results and tour first-timers Josh Haggerty, Anton O'Connell and Nick Kergozou for getting stuck in – along with each and everyone one of you – the young and the more seasoned – you were all fantastic to watch as the days unfolded! Remember to check out all the highlights, images and results here – it’s well worth checking through them.  Finally, superman Bruce and his merry band of enthusiastic volunteers, officials, all the fabulous sponsors and community supporters who all ensure the success of this iconic Southland event – you are all super stars – a big pat on the back for committing to being a part of it – we hope you’re all in for the ride again next year!

2015 Licensing and Membership
The 2015 licensing season is now upon us and if you intend racing the Southland Track Champs you WILL need a 2015 current licence. All details are here and if you can complete online through BikeNZ for all your racing and ride club race licences that will save me an awful lot of manual processing in the office. Also just to confirm that we do have Cycling Southland membership cards for the first time this year, so remember to collect these when you renew. A reminder that the $35 Ride Club BikeNZ licence is the minimum (along with the Cycling Southland Club membership) that you need to have to be racing on the road or the track. Get licensing folks!

Southland Track Champs

This is again a UCI Para Tier 1 event and we will have Paracylists from NZ, Australia and maybe further afield on board. Because so many of our regular volunteers are riding we need all the help we can be offered please as it is only Bruce and I in left in the office for this. Before that we have the smaller event of the South Island Secondary Schools Track Champs on Saturday 22 November where a few hands may also be handy (ha ha ha). If you can assist with either of these events can you please let me know as soon as you can – much appreciated – as always!

World Cup Mexico
Well there’s been some ups and downs for our troops at the World Cup Track Champs in Mexico over recent days with Eddie and his sprint boys securing bronze – the only one sadly but we did score some valuable points -  and Cam putting in some fantastic placings, including a 1st and 3rd in the omnium to be sitting in 3rd going into the final event before a dreaded lurgy started striking the camp leaving him with no strength for the 40km points race. Our Matt was also excited on the eve of his racing until he too was struck down with the ‘bot, shame that – and finally to Stephie finishing 7th in the team sprint and a PB in her Flying Lap, and Piet with 5th placing in the team pursuit with his crew. Definitely some bars set for the season ahead and still plenty of great results to keep the NZ camp sparking. Check out the updates as they come to hand

Finally, big congrats to our Southland Secondary School Sports Men and Women of the year and those highly commended.
Nick, Emma and Hamish well done Read about the results here or pick up today’s paper!
Have a groovy week folks
