Hi everyone!

Well, the countdown is on to two big events – first of all, the UCI Track World Championships which start tomorrow in in Cali, Colombia, with a good swag of Southlanders competing – all the best to Matt Archibald, Eddie Dawkins, Piet Bulling and Tom Scully, and also NZ mechanic Chris O’Connor – we are right behind you boys!

Closer to home, we have the 2014 Age Group and U19 Omnium Track National Champs, which start one week today.  We have a really strong Southland team again this year - everyone has been putting in the hard yards and training really well, so come along and show your support when racing gets underway.   The first day of racing is Wednesday 5th March with an evening session only (6.30pm).  From Thursday 6th March to Saturday 8th March sessions will be at 10am and 6.30pm, and on Sunday 9th at 10am and 2.30pm (please note this is a change from the original programme).

Day sessions cost $5, Evening sessions $10, and kids under 12 are free.  It costs $40 for a ticket to all 9 sessions. Bargain!  Bring a friend along and show them what track racing is all about and cheer for our team as we make a bid to win the Points Shield for another year.

Complimentary Tickets for Nationals for Volunteers
All those volunteering at Nationals can come into the Office some time this week, or next week before Nationals starts, and pick up 2 x complimentary tickets for Nationals from the Cycling Southland Office.  This is a small gesture of our appreciation!

Cycling Southland Prizegiving
Lock in Friday 6th June for the Annual Cycling Southland Prizegiving, to be held at the Ascot.  We have lots to celebrate!

Road Race this weekend – Myross Bush Points Race
As I write this, our website is down, but our provider is working on it and hoping to have it up and running soon so you can all register online for the road race this weekend!

No Wednesday Worlds or Road Race next week
Because of Track Nationals, where all hands are on deck, we won’t be running Wednesday Worlds or a Saturday Road Race next week (5th and 8th of March).  Wednesday Worlds is of course on this glorious afternoon.

Gear to Christchurch – can you help?
Ian Densie has about 8 boxes, roughly the size of an A4 box of paper (some slightly bigger, some smaller) that he needs up in Christchurch before the 21st March if anyone can help.

You can email Ian at idensie@hotmail.com

Spanner found in Car Park
Neil Familton found a spanner with"GEDORE'' on it, with  15 and 14 ends, after racing on Tuesday night.  Contact Neil (via Dale if you don’t have his details) if you think it’s yours.

From the Executive:
GENERAL MANAGER POSITION

Phil Culling who was to commence as General Manager for Cycling Southland on 3 March 2014 advised the executive last Friday that he did not wish to take up the position for personal reasons. He will continue to assist as a volunteer in several areas.

The executive accepted this and is in the process of planning ahead in this area.

We held a meeting of life members, convenors and selectors last Monday night and updated them on the current position.

Since Nick Jeffrey left at the end of November 2013 the executive and staff have managed the organisation and will continue to do so.

In the meantime I will spend more time in the office to support this. I appreciate the ongoing hard work of Bruce, Dale and Melissa.

I will keep you updated and we will hold a club meeting for all members in a months time.

If you require further information please contact me or any of the executive members.

Kind regards
Lindsay Jordan
President

Ok, well that’s all for now folks.

Looking forward to seeing everyone hone their speed over the coming week and pull on the Southland Skinsuit next week.  Let’s do it!

Have a great week
