Welcome to the New Year everyone,
We trust you had a great Christmas and New Year with family and friends. Hopefully it has left you all revitalised and refreshed for another exciting year ahead and the recent heatwave hasn’t left you feeling a little drained – bring on the moisture later today!
Well we are straight back into it this week for sure, with the ILT New Year Track Carnival this Friday and Saturday night, starting at 6.30pm. Entry is just $5 adults and kids free so head on down for the action.
If anyone is keen to volunteer to lend a hand please let me know – it’s guaranteed to be a bit fun!
Meanwhile, in between the evening action we are hosting the Ascot Park Hotel Criteriums from 10.30am on Saturday – not Sunday as previous years. Again more great action so head along and cheer the riders on!
Track Schedule
This week is our last week of shortened hours until the Stadium returns to usual hours next week. The track will be closed during the day tomorrow for lighting repairs but Sprint Squad will still run 6-8pm, View the schedule here

Please let me know if you can put your hand up to volunteer and what days/sessions you can help with thank you.
Aotearoa Bike Challenge
We want to see more people riding bikes so we’re getting behind the Aotearoa Bike Challenge, which is back for 2018. It’s a fun, free competition that’s all about seeing which workplaces can get the most people to ride a bike for just 10 minutes or more. It’s not just bragging rights on the line, they give away awesome prizes - including e-bikes!
Share your love of cycling with your workmates, join the Challenge and log your rides in February and you're in! Check out the website here: https://www.lovetoride.net/nz or check them out on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Aotearoa-Bike-Challenge-Southland-1648691138761137/
Some cool events are being organised locally so get out during Feb and show everyone how cycling is the best way to get around.
Timing equipment
Thanks to a generous grant from the ILT Foundation, we’re in the process of getting the timing system for the track updated. This includes a new software programme and new computers to run the system. A big thanks to the ILT Foundation for their ongoing support.
Track bikes
We’ve also received a generous grant from the ICC’s Invercargill Active Communities fund which, combined with the money raised by club members in the bumper raffle, will enable us to obtain 26 new track bikes to replace some of the aging fleet. This is a fantastic step for the organisation and will allow us to promote our learn to ride programmes to a wider audience.
Bike Wanted
A 15-year-old is on the hunt for a carbon frame, around 56cm. If anyone knows of anything please let me know thanks.
Tuatapere Sports Day
A small number of riders headed out for the annual grass racing event on New Year’s Day – check out photo
So have a great remainder of your week and we look forward to catching you up at the track and crit this weekend!
