Hi everyone,
Well it pretty much hasn’t stopped with events – both here and away – and some truly outstanding results of late. Leading out of the blocks is our World Champion Master rainbow jersey holder Erin Criglington who not only defended her IP world title, but gathered up the points race rainbow jersey well. Truly outstanding!! Read the latest update
Then there’s the effort of all our Southland reps and Southland (NZ) reps at the Oceas Track Champs in Adelaide – woweee what exciting stuff that has been as well with some top results from both our strong Elite and U19 contingents.
View all the online updates and results here and great big congrats to all those who made the medal podium or achieved personal bests!

Great Southern Cycle Challenge
On Saturday 1 November – just before the SBS Bank Tour of Southland kicks off again, the Great Southern Cycle Challenge (GSCC) will be held again. The race is an initiative by the Rotary Club of Invercargill South to raise funds for the St John Health Shuttle. It is a virtual mini tour of Southland, open to all cyclists of average or better fitness levels.
Starting from Surrey Park at SIT Zero Fees Velodrome in Invercargill, the course covers a host of local towns before returning to the finish near the Velodrome. All roads are open to other users so participants must obey the road code at all times. Click here to find out more or download an entry form
Stewart Island Fundraiser
A huge thank you to Peter Grandiek, Real Journeys, Ascot Park Hotel and all our raffle fundraising ticket sellers and buyers who helped to successfully raise more than $1000 for the club over recent weeks and congrats to our two prize winners – little Victoria Lettink and Helen Hillis. The effort put in to this is hugely appreciated by all involved.
Cycling Road Safety Equipment Return
Can anyone who may have Cycling Southland radios, flashing lights and other vital equipment that may be necessary for the upcoming SBS Bank Tour of Southland, please ensure you return it ASAP to the office – much appreciated if you check your garages, car boots etc thank you. It is important that we have all equipment back and checked ready in time for the tour.
WOW Track Session deferred
Due to lack of numbers and the fact that the longer warmer nights are allowing people to get out on the road more, the Women on Wheels (WOW) intermediate ladies session on Thursday nights has been deferred to a later date.

It would be great if we could get any keen Otago and Southland riders to come up to a few of these races. Would be even better if we had a weekend of racing but in lieu we could always have an organised training ride on the Saturday or Sunday.
They will be running a camp this week for U17 riders moving up to U19s and U17’s that are interested.
At this stage they have a few spots left – we are hoping for around 5-7 boys and 5-7 girls just to keep numbers manageable.
They will be primarily focusing on race specific prep for Tour De Vineyards but will also cater for younger riders not quite ready for that level (we already have a couple of U17 girls coming that we are catering for).
Anyone interested can contact Coach Patrick Harvey – ph 027 287 7420 or [email protected]
Community Trust of Southland
We would like to gratefully acknowledge the funding that Cycling Southland has received from the Community Trust of Southland (www.ctos.org.nz) as part of their role in helping Cycling Southland to achieve positive outcomes for the Southland community.
So next up, it’s onwards and upwards to the SBS Bank Tour of Southland again, which runs from Sunday 2 to Saturday 8 November. If you’re keen to get on board and lend a hand with anything, don’t be shy to let us know – the more the merrier for this big event!
Take care out there and keep smiling – it makes the world wonder what you’re up to?!
